Fairfield Lions dominate Paint Valley

The Fairfield Lions defended their home court in Grandle Gymnasium in convincing fashion on Saturday, Dec. 21 by defeating the visiting Paint Valley Bearcats 59-42.

Fairfield scored 11 points in both the first and second quarters, while the Bearcats scored 10 points in each of the first two frames for a 22-20 halftime lead by the host Lions.

The third frame is where the Lions took care of business against the Bearcats, outscoring Paint Valley 18-9 in the third quarter, followed by a fourth quarter where the Lions scored 19 points and PVHS scored 13 points for what became a 17-point victory.

There were three Fairfield players finishing in double figure scoring, starting with Brody Smith with a 19-point effort. Smith made six two-point baskets and two 3-pointers, plus he was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line. He also had nine rebounds (four offensive) and two steals.

Caleb Barrera totaled 15 points in the win for Fairfield, with his scoring consisting of five two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and he was 2-of-2 in his free throw attempts. Barrera also had one rebound and three assists.

The Lions had 12 points from Logan McIntosh, with the senior finishing with one 3-pointer, three two-point baskets and he was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. McIntosh also collected seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Griffin Friend totaled four points, five rebounds, one assist and one block for the Lions in the win. Teammate Quentin McIntosh totaled four points, seven rebounds, one assist, two steals and a block.

Scoring two points each were Dane Hodson (three rebounds) and Caleb Rice (one rebound, two assists), and with one point was Chase Newman. FHS also had Layne Burgess with one rebound.

As a team, the Lions totaled 34 rebounds (14 offensive), nine assists, four steals and four blocks. They were 11-of-16 from the free-throw line, while also totaling four 3-pointers and 18 two-point baskets.

Lady ’Cats take down Lady Falcons

Winning on their home court on Saturday (Dec. 21), the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats earned their seventh win of the season, defeating the visiting Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons, 62-35.

Whiteoak gained a strong lead following the first quarter by a 19-4 score and followed that by outscoring the Lady Falcons 14-7 in the second frame for a 33-11 lead at halftime.

WHS won the third frame by a point at 15-14, and in the fourth quarter WHS scored 14 points and Clinton-Massie had 10 points.

In Whiteoak’s 27-point win, they totaled seven 3-pointers, 18 two-point baskets and were 5-of-10 from the free-throw line.

WHS also collected 37 rebounds (16 offensive), 19 assists, 14 steals and four blocks.

WHS was led in the scoring column by Addy Hauke with 22 points, as she made four 3-pointers, five two-point field goals, and she also had five rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block.

Kylee Hamm totaled 10 points with one 3-pointer and three two-point baskets, plus she also was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. The senior also had five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Whiteoak had Jillian Lucas finish with nine points (one 3-pointer), with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.  

Torie Potts ended the game with eight points, four rebounds, one assist, three steals and three blocks.

Charli Hauke finished with seven points (one 3-pointer), seven rebounds and two assists.

Addison Roberts totaled six points in the win for WHS, adding 11 rebounds, two assists and three steals to her totals.

Whiteoak falls to St. Ursula at Princeton Holiday Classic

In day one of the Princeton Holiday Classic, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats lost to St. Ursula, 46-32.

The non-conference game saw WHS trail 8-4 after the first frame, and WHS held a 21-17 lead at halftime following a 17-point second frame by the Lady ’Cats and nine points from SUHS.

In the third quarter, St. Ursula scored 22 points and added seven points in the fourth quarter, while Whiteoak had six points in the third and five points in the final frame.

Addison Roberts led Whiteoak with 13 points, making three 3-pointers. She also had two two-point baskets, six rebounds, one assist and four steals.

Addy Hauke totaled seven points (one 3-pointer) with five rebounds.

Torie Potts finished with four points, eight rebounds, one assist, two steals and two blocks.

Kylee Hamm finished with three points (a 3-pointer), plus she added five rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Charli Hauke ended the game with three points (one 3-pointer), plus three rebounds, one assist and four steals.

Jillian Lucas totaled two points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

As a team, WHS finished with six two-point baskets, six 3-pointers, 29 rebounds, eight assists, 12 steals and two blocks.

Lady ’Cats drop game to Lutheran East at Princeton Holiday Classic

On the second day of the Princeton Holiday Classic, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats lost to Lutheran East, 67-41 in non-conference play.

LEHS led Whiteoak 16-11 after the first frame, and followed that with an 11-2 second quarter over WHS for a 27-13 halftime score.

Lutheran East scored 20 points in the third quarter and 20 more points in the fourth frame, while WHS had third-quarter scoring of 11 points and then they added 17 points in the final quarter.

Addison Roberts led WHS with 15 points as she made six two-point baskets and a 3-pointer. Kylee Hamm followed with 11 points, making one 3-pointer, three two-point baskets and she was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Addy Hauke totaled seven points with a 3-pointer and two two-point field goals, and the rest of the final scoring fore the Lady ‘Cats consisted of Jillian Lucas with three points (one 3-pointer), Torie Potts with three points and Charli Hauke with two points.

WHS finished 3-of-4 from the free-throw line, while also totaling four 3-pointers and 13 two-point baskets.

Lutheran East was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line, while also collecting nine 3-pointers and 19 two-point baskets.

After the weekend games, WHS now stands at 7-3 overall, and they are 5-1 in the Division II SHAC standings.

Lady Indians win by 9 points over North Adams

The Hillsboro Lady Indians defeated the North Adams Lady Green Devils by a 57-48 score in a non-conference road game on Saturday at North Adams High School.

Tylee Davis led the way for HHS with 20 points, making seven two-point baskets and going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. She also added 14 rebounds for a double-double, plus two assists, six steals and a block.

Kyra Boyd was next with 17 points, making one 3-pointer and seven two-point baskets. She also had four rebounds, four assists, five steals and one block.

Kobie Miles totaled eight points, with two two-point baskets, and she went 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Miles added five rebounds and five steals.

Also with eight points was Ella Jordan, as she made a 3-pointer, was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line and collected two two-point buckets. Jordan also had two rebounds, one assist, three steals and a block.

Dinah Ames finished with four points, two rebounds, one steal and a block.

Kayla Seeling in the win had one steal and one block, while teammate Peighton Bledsoe collected four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Annie Young finished with three rebounds.

The win by HHS improves their overall record to 8-2 overall, as they have a 4-1 mark in the FAC.

Indians take home big win over North Adams

Hillsboro went on the road Saturday (Dec. 27) and got back on track and gained a non-conference win over the host North Adams Green Devils, 60-59.

The Indians trailed at the conclusion of the first quarter by a 22-17 score, but they came back strong in the second frame as they added 16 points to their overall total and held the Green Devils to 13 points for a halftime score of 35-33 with the Green Devils out in front.

In the final two quarters, NAHS scored 16 points in the third, while the Indians scored 15 points for a 51-48 score with North Adams still in the lead.

HHS used stout defense in the fourth quarter where they also scored 12 points, while NAHS scored eight points.

The Indians were led in scoring by Tate Davis with 24 points, with the senior having six two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and he was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Jack Howland totaled 20 points with four 3-pointers, and four two-point baskets.

The rest of the HHS scoring included Xander Lake with seven points, Brayden Hunter with five points and Dylan Dixon with four points.

As a team, the Indians totaled 14 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers, and they were 14-of-20 from the free-throw line.

North Adams had Carson Osborne led the way with 20 points, followed by Jayce Rothwell scoring 17 points and Breestin Schweickart scoring 15 points.

Carson Davis scored four points for the Green Devils, and Connor Young had three points.

NAHS finished with 17 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers and they were 7-of-13 in their free-throw attempts.

The win improves HHS to 3-3 overall this season.

Mustangs lose to Paint Valley

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs suffered a home loss on Saturday against the visiting Paint Valley Bearcats 52-44 in their non-conference game at LCHS.

LCHS and the Bearcats were tied at 7-7 after the first quarter and it was the Mustangs holding onto a two-point lead at halftime after outscoring the Bearcats 13-11 for a 20-18 halftime lead.

Each team scored 13 points apiece in the third frame for a 33-31 score with the Mustangs in the lead. The fourth quarter is where the game got away from Lynchburg-Clay with Paint Valley outscoring the host Mustangs, 21-11.

Denver Clinton led the Mustangs with 15 points, as he made seven two-point baskets and he was 1-of-4 from the free-throw line. Clinton Las collected a double-double with 10 rebounds, plus he added two assists.

Trevor Niehaus finished with 10 points, making a 3-pointer, three two-point buckets and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. He also collected three rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Elam Faust totaled eight points, 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal. Teammate Cody Bell totaled seven points (one 3-pointer), two rebounds, one assist and one steal.

The Mustangs also had two points each from Max Baker and Quinn Wells. Baker also had three rebounds, and Wells grabbed one rebound. LCHS had Braedon West total one assist and three steals. Asher Faust totaled four rebounds, and Tanner Roberts had one steal.

As a team, the Mustangs finished with 17 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, they were 4-of-9 from the free-throw line, plus they had 33 rebounds, six assists and seven steals.

LCHS stands at 2-6 overall, and in the SHAC standings they are 2-4 this season.

Lions win at home against Astros

The Fairfield Lions defended their home court on Saturday evening by dominating the visiting East Clinton Astros 67-31 in their non-conference battle.

Fairfield scored 38 points in the first half with a 22-point first quarter and 16 points in the second frame. The Astros scored nine points in the first quarter and nine more points in the second frame, giving the Lions a 22-18 halftime advantage.

In the second half, ECHS scored eight points in the third and five points in the fourth frame. Fairfield in the same two quarters scored 23 points in the third and six points in the fourth and final frame.

The Lions were led by Logan McIntosh with 25 points, making eight two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and McIntosh was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Brody Smith finished with 15 points, making four two-point buckets, two 3-pointers, and he was 1-of-3 in his free-throw attempts.

Griffin Friend totaled 12 points with six two-point field goals. Caleb Barrera finished with six points off three two-point baskets.

The Lions also had four points from Caleb Rice off two baskets, three points by Quentin McIntosh as he made a basket and was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Chase Newman finished with two points off a basket.

As a team, the Lions totaled 25 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers and they were 5-of-9 from the free-throw line. ECHS totaled 11 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they were 3-of-6 in their free-throw attempts.

The win improves the Lions to FHS now stands at 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the SHAC standings.
