Hillsboro, McClain girls wrestling competes at Hammer and Anvil Tournament at Western Brown

The Hillsboro Lady Indians and McClain Lady Tigers wrestled Saturday at Western Brown High School at the girls Hammer and Anvil Tournament. 

Hillsboro finished in 16th place overall with a team score of 60.5, and McClain was in a four-way tie with Colerain, McNicholas and Northridge in 33rd place with 21 points. 

Winning the girls tournament was Delaware Hayes with a score of 226. 

For HHS, Miley Messer (105) placed second overall in her weight class. In her first match (a second-round match), Messer won by pin over Brandy Frame of Edgewood at 1:37. In the quarterfinals, Messer defeated Lacey Carmack of Taylor by tech fall at 19-4. The semifinals saw Messer win by pin over Emma Smith of Western Brown at 3:00. In the finals, Messer lost to Badin’s Teegan Herrington. 

Hillsboro’s Peyton Hipsher (140) finished in fourth place in her weight class, beginning with a first-round win over Arianna Spangler of Lakota East by pin at 1:41. In the second round, she defeated Aimee Dobrozsi of Lakota East by pin at 2:10. Hipsher in the quarterfinals earned the win by pin over Maddy Defibaugh of Greeneview at 3:00. Hipsher lost in the semifinals to Jordin Hutcherson of Fairfield. In the third-place match, Hipsher lost to Bella Zuckschwerdt of Madison Consolidated. 

McClain’s Lexie Burns placed fifth overall in the 120-pound weight class. She began the tournament with a second round win over Sophia Bermudez by pin at 1:09. In the quarterfinals, Burns lost to Cecelia Snyder of McNicholas. Burns rebounded with a win in the fourth consolation round by defeating Jazzmen Rose of West Clermont by pin at 2:20. Burns added another win, this time winning against Caroline Davis of Ross by pin at 0.42 in the consolation semifinal. In the fifth-place match, Burns defeated Marlee Trantanella of Eaton by pin at 3:33. 

Isabella Storer (120) of HHS lost in the first round to Reagan Hudson of Monroe, but won in the second consolation round by defeating Annabelle Mackie of National Trail via pin at 1:25. Storer also won in the third consolation round by defeating Natilynn Dotson of Mason by pin fall at 0.36. Storer lost in the fourth consolation round to Marlee Trantanella of Eaton. 

Khloe Daniels (170) of Hillsboro wrestled in the second round, where she fell to Zoey Centers of New Richmond. Daniels won in the second consolation round with a pin fall victory over Genevive Tzinberg of Colerain at 1:35. Daniels gained a second win, this time defeating Ciarra Binning of West Clermont by pin at 2:11. In the fourth consolation round, Daniels fell to Daniella Gray of Carlisle. 

Arrielle Burns (125) of HHS, lost a first round match to Raquel Carmosino of McNicholas, but won a first consolation match against Lydia Milliner of New Richmond via pin fall at 5:51. Burns lost in the second consolation round to Abbey Sharkey of Fairmont. 

McClain’s Izzie Carter (120), Chimera Bryant (140), Alexis Crabtree (170) and Sarah Kegley (190) each wrestled two matches.
