Mustangs golf defeats West Union via tiebreaker

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs gained a huge Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on Wednesday by using a tiebreaker to gain the win over West Union.

The Mustangs and West Union Dragons were tied at 147 following the scoring of their top four players, but in the fifth tie-breaking score, the Mustangs had the low score to secure the SHAC win.

LCHS was led by Kristian Beachy with a low score of 34.

Nolan Wilkin and Carson Pfister each shot a 37. Saxen Wilkin, Aiden Bene and Jackson West each finished with a 39 score.

In the fifth score for the tiebreaker, the Mustangs had a 39 score, while the Dragons’ fifth score was a 43, securing the LCHS win.

The win moved the Mustangs to 11-0 overall, as they have had five separate medalists this season.

Mustangs suffer first loss of season

At the Hilltop Golf Course on Thursday, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs suffered their first loss on the links in 2024, falling in a tri-match against the Manchester Greyhounds and Eastern Warriors.

Manchester won with a score of 162, followed by LCHS at 168 and Eastern coming in with a score of 194.

Scores for LCHS included: Nolan Wilkin (37), Kristian Beachy (43), Carson Pfister (44), Jackson West (44), Christian Flowers (45), Aiden Bene (47), Saxen Wilkin (47) and Cole Wells (52).

Indians boys golf loses at Wilmington

In a non-conference match on Thursday, the Hillsboro Indians boys golf team was defeated by the host Wilmington Hurricane in their non-conference match.

The Indians lost by a 167-169 score.

HHS scores included Jackson Cornele with a 39 score, and Conner Kelch had a score of 40. The rest of the HHS scores included Tate Davis (43) and Logan Barton (47).

In JV action, the Indians lost 193-209. JV scores for HHS were: Jay Reno (51), Kenny Shawhan (52), Brayden Oberrecht (52) and Jordan Davis (54).

Lady Tigers celebrate seniors at Buckeye Hills

The McClain Lady Tigers honored their seniors on Thursday as they played in a tri-match against Zane Trace and Adena in non-conference play.

For MHS, seniors include Kallie Posey, Abbie Lovett and Kate Barrett.

The Lady Tigers were third in the match with a 222 score, while first place went to Zane Trace (198) and Adena (211).

Score for MHS were: Kaylin Sterling (41), Abbie Lovett (56), Katie Posey (60), Sarah Kegley (65), Kate Barrett (67) and Aubrey Chamblin (68).

TENNIS
Lady Indians win against Washington

The Hillsboro girls tennis team won a Frontier Athletic Conference match Thursday by defeating the Washington Lady Blue Lions 4-1.

In first singles, Jenna Hart of HHS won in two sets at 7-5, 6-2. The second singles match saw Hillsboro’s Adalyn Gaines win by scored of 6-1, 6-4. In third singles, Natalie Tharp of HHS won in two sets at 6-0, 6-0.

HHS first doubles scores included Elizabeth Sowders and Taylor-Ann Scruggs winning at 6-2, 6-1.

Second doubles for HHS saw Alyssa Taylor and Ciara Woods fall by scores of 2-6, 1-6.
