Basketball Report: Hillsboro teams, McClain boys earn big wins; Lynchburg-Clay teams suffer losses

Tigers win on road against Adena
The McClain Tigers earned a non-conference victory on Saturday (Dec. 28) by going on the road to defeat the Adena Warriors by a 59-36 score.
The Tigers got things started by taking a 14-point lead in the game at the end of the first quarter, leading 19-5 over the host Warriors. From there, it was Adena narrowly winning the second frame at 10-8, but McClain stayed in the lead by a 27-15 score.
The two teams played quality offense in the third quarter with the Tigers scoring 16 points and Adena netting 14 points, for a 43-29 score with McClain staying in the lead. In the final quarter, it was the Tigers with 16 more points and Adena scoring seven points, giving MHS a 23-point victory.
Both Owen Sykes and Zane Adams led the Tigers with 16-point efforts. Adams made three two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Sykes finished with four two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and he was 2-of-3 in his free-throw attempts.
Riley Cummins finished with eight points as he made two two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Jordan Bell totaled five points with a two-point basket and a 3-pointer, while teammate Brandon Greene also finished with five points as he made a two-point basket and was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Hayden Angel, Brady Binegar and Hudson Lovett each ended the game with three points (all via 3-pointer).

Indians score 96 points in win at Blanchester
In their non-conference game Friday night, the Hillsboro Indians scored 96 points in their win over the host Blanchester Wildcats.
The Indians won by a 96-19 score on Friday night and it started with a 32-10 first quarter lead for HHS, as Jack Howland scored 14 points in the quarter, including a 3-pointer, five two-point field goals and a free throw. Howland finished the game with 30 points, collecting 10 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and he was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.
The first quarter also included Xander Lake scoring seven points, and he finished the game with 17 points. In his 17-point effort, Lake made seven two-point baskets and was 3-of-4 in his free-throw attempts.
Tate Davis chipped in the first-quarter scoring with five points, making a 3-pointer and eight-point baskets. Davis ended the game with 26 points, making three two-point buckets, three 3-pointers and finished with a 1-of-2 performance from the free-throw line.
Also in the opening quarter, Dylan Dixon scored two baskets for four points, and he finished the game with nine points overall. Dixon made four two-point baskets and was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line for the game.
Tre Captain made a two-point basket in the first quarter and ended the game with six points, totaling three two-point baskets for the game.
The Indians added 24 points in the second quarter, with Brayden Hunter sinking a 3-pointer. The Indians also had four points from Lake, nine points scored by Davis, one point from Dixon, and Howland scored seven points in the second frame.
Hillsboro’s defense held the Wildcats to three points in the second quarter, putting the Indians ahead by a 56-13 score at halftime.
The third quarter for HHS saw Mason Dumpert score four points off two baskets, Lake net three baskets for six points and Davis make three buckets for two-point apiece, plus a free throw. The third also had Howland making one basket for two points, as HHS outscored Blanchester 19-1 in the quarter.
In the fourth frame, BHS scored five points, while the Indians scored 21 points. In the fourth, Davis scored five points, Dixon had four points, Captain had four points, Howland scored seven points and Brady Juillerat scored one point with a free-throw conversion.
As a team, the Indians totaled 34 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers and they were 7-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Mustangs fall in SHAC game to North Adams
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs had a tough Southern Hills Athletic Conference road battle Friday night, taking on the first-place North Adams Green Devils at NAHS, where the Green Devils defended their home court with a 74-41 win over the visiting LCHS squad.
LCHS scored seven points in the first frame and nine points in the second, while North Adams scored 22 points in the first quarter and 17 points in the second for a halftime score of 39-16 in favor of the home team Green Devils at halftime.
The second half included 19 points by LCHS in the third and six points in the fourth quarter. North Adams scored 20 points in the third quarter and 15 points in the final frame.
LCHS was led in scoring by Denver Clinton with 14 points, making six two-point baskets and going 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. He also collected nine rebounds.
Trevor Niehaus totaled six points with two two-point baskets and two made free throws. Quinn Wells finished with seven points, as he made three baskets for two points each and one free throw.
Cody Bell finished with four points with two made baskets, Max Baker also made two baskets for four points and teammate Asher Faust scored four points with a basket and two made free throws. Scoring two points for the Mustangs was Braedon West.
In all, LCHS totaled 15 two-point baskets one 3-pointer (Wells), and they were 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Hillsboro tops Highland County counterpart Lynchburg-Clay
Hosting their Highland County counterpart, the Hillsboro Lady Indians added their 10th win of the season by defeating the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs 72-44 on Saturday afternoon at Hillsboro High School.
HHS (10-2) built a 15-point lead once the first quarter was finished for a 27-12 lead, and it was LCHS outscoring the Lady Indians in the second at 13-7 for a score of 34-25 at halftime with Hillsboro in the lead.
The second half saw HHS win the third frame at 16-11, and the fourth quarter also went to HHS as they scored 22 points and Lynchburg-Clay had eight points.
Five Lady Indians players had double-figure scoring, with Kyra Boyd scoring 21 points to lead the way for HHS. Boyd finished the game with one 3-pointer and nine two-point baskets. Boyd collected seven rebounds, one assist and three steals as well in the win.
Tylee Davis totaled 17 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double. Davis finished the game with one 3-pointer, four two-point baskets, and she was 6-of-9 in her free-throw attempts. Davis also had five assists and four steals.
Peighton Bledsoe finished with 11 points, totaling one 3-pointer, three two-point field goals and she was a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Bledsoe also finished with six assists, six steals and three rebounds.
Also with 11 points was Ella Jordan, as she collected one 3-pointer, three two-point baskets and went 2-of-3 from the free-throw line, and she had five rebounds, four assists and one steal.
Kobie Miles totaled 10 points for HHS in the win, ending the game with two two-point baskets for four points, plus she was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Miles also finished with three rebounds and two assists.
Also scoring points for the Lady Indians was Dinah Ames with two points, while she also collected five rebounds and a block. Kayla Seeling totaled one rebound, assist and block for the Lady Indians. Piper Wilkin ended the game with two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Annia Young finished the game with two rebounds, and a block.
As a team, the Lady Indians totaled 43 rebounds, 19 assists, 16 steals and five blocks.
Lynchburg-Clay (3-7) was led in scoring by Adilyn Carraher with 13 points, making four 3-pointers and a free throw. Carraher also collected five rebounds and a steal.
Madison McMullen finished with 11 points, as she ended the game with five two-point baskets and she also went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. McMullen also added three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Ava McLaughlin ended the game with eight points, as she made four two-point baskets. McLaughlin also had two rebounds. Also for the Lady Mustangs, Lily Ferguson totaled four points (two baskets), one rebound and two assists. Allie Waits added four points, three steals, two assists and one rebound.
Savannah Bell totaled three points off a two-point basket and a free throw, plus she totaled one rebound, five assists and two steals. Joslyn Rockey finished with one point, two rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Team totals for LCHS included 14 rebounds, 13 assists and seven steals.
