Tigers lose road game against Westfall

Two four-run innings by the Westfall Mustangs, added with a one-run inning, were too much for the McClain Tigers to overcome on Thursday night as they were defeated by the Mustangs, 9-2 in non-conference action. 

MHS led early with a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but four runs in the bottom of the second by the host Westfall club, and later a one-run fifth and four runs in the sixth, saw MHS down 9-1. McClain added one last run in the top of the seventh for what was a seven-run loss. 

McClain finished the game with six hits and two errors. Westfall totaled eight hits and committed three errors. 

Three of the six McClain hits were off the bat of Kaden Penwell, as he was 3-for-4 with two runs. Owen Sykes went 2-for-2 with one walk. Also with a hit was Jayden Allison at 1-for-3. Connor McCune had one walk for MHS, and Eli Douglas was hit by a pitch. 

Carter Nelson, Penwell and Sykes each had steals, with Sykes gaining two steals. 

The loss on the mound went to Andrew Potts who allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits in four innings. Potts struck out two batters, finishing the game with 71 pitches, 41 for strikes. 

Cohen Six pitched two innings for McClain, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits with three strikeouts. Six finished the game throwing 38 pitches, 22 for strikes.

The loss ends McClain to an overall record of 1-2 overall. Next for McClain is a home game Friday, March 29 vs. Green.
