McClain’s Lily Barnes competes at Division II State Track and Field Championships

COLUMBUS — McClain junior Lily Barnes competed at the 2023 State Track and Field Championships in Columbus on Friday, where she finished in 17th place in the Division II discus throw event.

In her three throws in the first flight (fourth thrower) on Friday morning, Barnes had a distance of 82-03 on her first throw. Barnes’ second and third throws had solid distances, but were fouls.

This was the second time Barnes has competed at the state meet, qualifying as a freshman in 2021, where she then had a throw of 108-11.

In ’23, Barnes was an at-large qualifier, as she earned the state qualification with a fifth-place finish at the New Concord regionals with a throw of 119-10.

Also in ’23, Barnes was the Frontier Athletic Conference champion at 111-08, and she won a district championship this year at Washington Court House with a throw of 124-09.

The ’23 state champion for the Division II discus throw was Morgan Hallett of Norton with a throw of 170-08.

Finishing as state runner-up was Landry Driskel of Hebron Lakewood at 134-1. The rest of the top five are Kelsey Snapp (Bellefontaine) at 129-9, Karma Williams (Fostoria) at 128-8 and Michaela Herendeen (Mogadore Field) at 124-10.
