McClain's Foster concludes wrestling career on podium at state

McClain senior K.C. Foster recently concluded her high school wrestling career on the highest stage, making school history en route to an eighth-place finish at the OHSAA State Tournament at Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center March 13-15.

Foster is the first state qualifier since 2023 and second overall for the girls wrestling tournament, as she earned a spot on the podium with her finish in the 235-pound weight class. 

Foster opened state competition Friday, March 13 with a first-round win by pin over eventual third-place finisher Keyonna Vann of Fremont Ross in 43 seconds. 

On Saturday, March 14, Foster lost her first match of the day in the quarterfinals, falling by pin to Beavercreek’s Aaliyah Crawford in 3:05. Crawford was also a state placer, as she was sixth overall.

Foster won her next match Saturday in the second consolation round, winning by pin over Lilia Gopar of Stebbins in 1:50, then lost by pin to Maci Lee of Marysville in 4:25 in the third consolation. Lee went on to finish fifth at state.

The final match of Foster’s career came in the seventh-place match on Sunday morning, where she fell to Autumn Woods of Chaminade Julienne by pin in 2:18.

The state champion of the 235-pound weight class was Deionna Borders of Berea-Midpark. Other state placers included Gabby Oregon of Archbold (second) and Dylan Ankney of Fairview (fourth).
