The McClain boys and girls wrestling teams both lost their matches to Jackson recently in Greenfield, but several Tiger and Lady Tiger wrestlers performed admirably on the mat.

McClain boys fell by a 48-29 score to a very experienced and talented Jackson team, but five Tigers were victorious, including three with pins.

Keegan Parker, who’s just a freshman, started off the night by defeating Ryder Thomas by a technical fall, winning 19-4 in the 106-pound weight class.

Isacc Morgan picked up McClain’s next victory with another win by a first-period pin in the 138-pound class over Carter Staten.

Tiger senior Carlos Gonzalez got a third-period win by pin over Jackson’s Sandro Ivechian in the 157-pound weight class. McClain sophomore Hunter Skaggs finished off the wins by the Tiger wrestlers with an impressive second-period pin in the 190-pound weight class.

McClain head coach Caleb Cooper, despite being disappointed with the outcome, still had lots of praise for his young Tiger squad.

“Even though we lost, I’m still proud of how well my boys wrestled tonight,” Cooper said. “Jackson has a solid team that is well-coached, and I thought we matched up with them pretty well.

“Keegan Parker started off the night strong for us with a win in the 106-pound weight class. Isaac Morgan, Carlos Gonzalez, and Hunter Skaggs also helped keep the match close by winning their matches, all by pins.

“We had a few other matches that I thought our kids wrestled well in, but just didn’t come out on top,” Cooper continued. “We’ll get back to the grind and start working on some things and begin preparing for our holiday tournament that will be held here at McClain gym on Saturday, December 27 starting at 10 a.m.”

The Lady Tigers also lost to Jackson on the women’s side but had several girls wrestle very well.

Lexie Burns is currently 7th in the state rankings for the 120-lb. class.

Lexie Burns, who is currently ranked seventh in the state in the 120-pound weight class, won with an impressive first-period pin, along with K.C. Foster who also registered a second-period win by pin.

The Lady Tigers will host their annual girls wrestling invitational tournament on Sunday, Dec. 28 in the McClain gym. Everyone is invited to come out and support the McClain wrestlers.
