McClain suffers back-to-back losses

GREENFIELD — The McClain boys varsity soccer team played probably their two toughest opponents on back-to-back nights at home this week, and to make things even more difficult, it came after not playing any games last week due to the Highland County Fair.
On Monday night, MHS lost to a very talented and extremely physical Circleville squad by a 7-1 score.
McClain played well for most of the first half and trailed just 1-0 with just under two minutes to play, but the Round-Towners netted two goals in the last couple of minutes and took a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Things looked promising to begin the second half when McClain scored at the 28:15 mark on an unbelievable header goal by senior Creed Davis that was set up by a great corner kick from freshman Lucas Banks.
“The goal we scored early in the second half on the header by Creed (Davis) assisted by Lucas Banks was a great play,” McClain head coach John Gill said. “That was I think Creed’s eighth goal of the season and the third or fourth nice assist of the year by Lucas (Banks).”
But that would be the only offensive highlight and goal of the night for McClain and Circleville would add four more goals in the last twenty minutes and post the 7-1 non-conference win.
“We knew coming into tonight’s game against Circleville that they would play kind of the same style of soccer that we do except they are a lot bigger and more physical,” Gill said. “This was fair week for us and that always makes it tough because we have a lot of kids missing practice and I think Circleville had two games last week which makes a big difference.”
The Tigers dropped their second game in as many nights on Tuesday when they lost to a very talented and quick Jackson team 7-0.
