The McClain Lady Tigers totaled nine runs on nine hits Friday night to gain a victory over the Eastern Lady Warriors, 9-0 in non-conference play.
The Lady Tigers plated one run in the bottom of the first, followed by a four-run second and two-run fourth inning. MHS scored two final runs in the bottom of the fifth for the convincing nine-run win.
In the circle, McClain’s Gracie Bowers pitched a complete game of seven innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits and no walks. Bowers totaled 56 pitches, 41 for strikes.
“Gracie Bowers pitched another great game for us tonight, with absolute consistency and control,” MHS head coach Molly Stegbauer said. “Our defense had her back with only one error in the field. The infield executed every play that came their way, and the outfield practically let absolutely nothing drop, including a phenomenal catch on the fly by Liv Stegbauer in center field.”
Brie Cummins led MHS at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, as she collected three doubles.
Lindsey Hutchinson finished 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, hitting two doubles, and she was hit by a pitch.
Having one hit each were Leah Lovett (one RBI), Kenzie Wise (one RBI), Allie Flowers (one run), Amaya Ryan (one run, one RBI, a double, one walk) and Sarah Easter (one run).
“Brie Cummins showed up big for us at the plate with three doubles on the night and three RBIs, as did Lindsey Hutchinson with two doubles and two RBIs of her own,” Stegbauer said. “I couldn’t be more proud of the way these girls have come together these last two games. They have so much potential, and I believe the fun has only just begun.
“I knew from the moment the girls stepped onto the field that it was going to be a good night. They were laser focused and ready to play.”
