McClain boys wrestling takes 4th place at Bob Guy Invitational in Williamsburg
The McClain Tigers boys wrestling team took home a fourth-place finish at the 2025 Bob Guy Invitational on Saturday at Williamsburg High School.
McClain scored a total of 104 points, tied for fourth place with Clermont Northeastern. The winning team was Ross with a total of 238.5, followed by runners-up Williamsburg with a 152 total. In third place was Wyoming at 122.
Placing on the podium for McClain were Isacc Morgan (138), Jacob Mick (138), Dalton Rowland (144) and Hunter Skaggs (190).
Morgan and Skaggs each were first place in their respective weight classes, while Mick was second place and Rowland finished third place in their weight classes.
Morgan at 138 pounds won the event, starting with a first-round win over Tito Hermansen of Mason by pin fall at 2:30. In the second round, Morgan defeated Ethan Ketchem of Madison by pin at 0.30. The third-round match for Morgan saw him win by pin fall over Cameron Sheppard of Norwood at 0.46.
McClain’s Morgan continued to add wins as he gained another pin fall victory, this time in the sixth round against Izik Lea of Goshen at 1:45. Morgan won the 138-pound weight class with a fifth pin fall win, defeating teammate Jacob Mick by pin at 0.54. Morgan finished the event 5-0 overall.
Skaggs at 190 pounds began his day in the second round where he defeated New Richmond’s Andy Thomas by pin fall at 0.58. Next was a third-round win over North College Hill’s Jerome Osborne by pin at 1:39.
A fourth-round match saw Skaggs defeat Leland Ondorvich of Ross with a 3-1 decision. From there, Skaggs gained a fourth win in the fifth-round match against Mason’s Ayden Moser by pin at 1:41. In the championship match, Skaggs defeated Maxton Craig of Mason by pin at 4:24.
Mick in his 138-pound second-place finish started with a 10-8 loss by decision against Eddie Scalf of Ross in the first round. Mick rallied back in the second round with a 0.30 pin fall victory over Gunner McDowell of Badin. In the third round, Mick again earned a win, this time over Clermont Northeastern’s Christian Kaim by pin at 2:45.
McClain’s Mick won another match, this time a sixth-round victory over Tristan Reed of Wyoming by tech fall (17-2).
Also placing was Rowland at 144 pounds, who in the first round won by pin fall against Jonah Montgomery of Ross at 0.33. Next, in the second round, Rowland defeated Goshen’s Kevin Foster with a 13-9 decision. Rowland won in the third round by defeating Zach Stevison of Ross by major decision at 16-6. Rowland added a fifth-round victory by defeating Erbol Mamytov of Mason by pin fall at 0.36. Rowland in the sixth round lost to A.J. Sturwold of Williamsburg. Rowland secured third place in the 144-pound weight class with a tech fall win over Eric Reynolds of North College Hill at 18-0.
Also for the Tigers, Adam Coleman (120 pounds) wrestled four matches with wins over Olivia Bryan of Madison by pin at 1:51, and he gained a win via forfeit over Davalatbek Gulomov of Goshen in the fourth and sixth rounds.
At 150 pounds, Jack Spencer of MHS won in the first round over Joe Vogel of Harrison by an 11-7 decision. Spencer then defeated Goshen’s Asher Garner by tech fall at 20-5 in the fourth round. Spencer also won in the third round against Ryith Rack of New Richmond by tech fall at 17-0. Spencer lost in the second round to Caleb Dunn of Ross.
In the 165-pound weight class, Carlos Gonzalez of MHS won by pin over Harrison’s Ethan Bailey at 1:30 as he had two matches in the event.
The 285-pound class saw McClain’s Braydin Simmons wrestle four matches and win against Andy Romero of North College Hill by pin at 1:27.
McClain’s Kenny Hilderbrand (126), Zayne Knisley (132), Cameron Skaggs (175) and Braylon Oyer (215) each wrestled two matches.
