McClain baseball earns 3 consecutive wins to start ’23 season

McClain moved to their third consecutive win on Wednesday night, as they went on the road and defeated non-conference foe, the East Clinton Astros, by a 13-3 score in six innings.

McClain (3-0) scored two runs in the top of the second, and following one run by the Astros in the bottom of the same inning, led 2-1 after two innings.

In the top of the third, the Tigers added two runs to their advantage, but in the bottom of the fourth it was the Astros scoring two runs, leaving the score 4-3 after four innings.

The Tigers scored a run in the top of the fifth, then took complete control of the game with an eight-run sixth inning or a 13-3 lead. The Tigers ended the game with six hits and committed two errors, while East Clinton had five hits and six errors.

Kaden Penwell finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, with two steals and one of his hits being a double.

Jayden Allison ended the day 1-for-3 with two runs, three RBI, one walk and his hit was a double. Cohen Six went 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI and a walk. Also with one hit was Haydon Hice at 1-for-3 with one RBI and a walk.

Seth Weller scored a run and forced a walk. Andrew Potts scored three runs, as he was hit by a pitch twice and gained one steal.

Connor McCune scored two runs with one RBI, two walks and a steal. Owen Sykes had a run, one RBI, a walk and a steal.

On the mound, Potts pitched six innings, where he allowed three runs (all earned) on five hits and a walk. Potts totaled five strikeouts as he threw 96 pitched, 61 for strikes and facing 26 batters.

The win moves McClain to 3-0 overall.
