GREENFIELD — For the eighth time in nine games this season, the McClain Lady Tigers left the basketball court with a win, this time on Saturday defeating the visiting Chillicothe Cavaliers by 14 points.

McClain defeated the Lady Cavs 51-37 in a physical contest against the Frontier Athletic Conference counterpart, as the victory by McClain moved them to 8-1 overall with a FAC record of 4-0 on the season.

In the afternoon contest, the Lady Tigers led 12-8 at the conclusion of the first quarter, and though Chillicothe was first to score points in the game, McClain answered with a free throw by Brenna Wright and later a put-back basket under the hoop by Larah Henson with 4:58 on the first-quarter clock.

The Lady Cavaliers came back with a three-point play but Henson responded with a 3-pointer for the Lady Tigers lifting MHS to a one-point lead with 2:46 left in the quarter.

After the score was tied at 6-6, the Lady Tigers came back with a three-point play by Wright, at the 2:01 mark, and eventually after multiple foul calls — including a technical foul called on Chillicothe — MHS held a four-point lead once the first frame ended with Henson making three of four free-throw attempts late in the first frame.

CHS won the second-quarter scoring at 13-11, as the Lady Cavaliers began the frame with two 3-pointers for a two-point lead with 7:05 left in the quarter for a 14-12 advantage.

McClain followed with five straight points off two baskets from Paisley Pryor, plus a free throw made by Wright, lifting MHS ahead 20-16.

MHS never lost the lead for the rest of the quarter as the two teams battled, including CHS shooting eight free-throw attempts in the final 3:53 of the second quarter, going 1-for-8 on the shots.

With MHS holding on to a two-point advantage entering the third frame at 23-21, they won the third frame at 14-10, taking a 37-31 lead once the third quarter concluded.

MHS led by as many as six points twice in the third, including having that lead when the frame ended. In the third, Henson scored two points, Pryor connected with two baskets, Brie Cummins scored two points and Anna Eikenberry had five points with a basket, and she was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line in the quarter.

The fourth quarter also belonged to the Lady Tigers with a 14-6 advantage to end the game for the 14-point win.

After the Lady Cavaliers scored first to begin the fourth quarter, Wright equaled the feat to put MHS back ahead by six. Chillicothe answered with another two points, and from there, the Lady Tigers took over with seven consecutive points, five of those points from the free-throw line, for a nine-point lead of 46-35 with under 2:00 left in the game.

After the Lady Cavs broke up the scoring streak, MHS ended the game with three free throws from Pryor and two free throws by Henson.

The fourth quarter saw the Lady Tigers go 9-of-15 from the free-throw line.
