GREENFIELD — After dropping the first two sets of the match to Jackson by lopsided scores of 25-12 and 25-10 the McClain varsity volleyball team played much better in the third set before losing 25-19.

The Lady Tigers were playing without one of their key players who was sidelined due to an injury which forced first-year head coach Cierra Bolender to have to shuffle a lot of players around using several different combinations.

“We’re dealing with an injury to one of our junior outside starters right now so we’re trying to play around with some different line-up to see what works best for us,” Bolender said. “I think we’re on the right track and our girl’s kind of settled in during that third set tonight and played a lot better as the match went on. We just need to find our comfort zone earlier in the match.”

Bolender continued to talk about her team.

“Lydia Beatty, our senior captain showed great leadership tonight and Shebly Wise who I put at Libero for the first time adjusted very well and did a pretty good job,” Bolender said. “Our girls need to be more aggressive when the balls on our side of the net and I want to see they know what to do with it.

“Jackson is always one of the best teams in our league and I thought that our girls in the front row did some pretty good things at the net tonight.”

McClain travels to Miami Trace Thursday, Sept. 11 before returning home Saturday to face Paint Valley in an afternoon game.
