Lady Tigers earn runner-up trophy at HHS wrestling invitational

The McClain Lady Tigers wrestling team is back in action for their third season with head coach Coty Barnhart back at the helm.

The team has a good mix with several third-year starters, along with many new faces. The team also boasts its biggest numbers this season, with 13 wrestlers.

The season started Dec. 12 with a dual league meet against FAC foe Jackson. The Lady Tigers came up one match short, falling in team points, 26-42. Wrestling for the Lady Tigers that night were:

110- Maddie Brown - Lost by pin
120- Lexie Burns - Won by forfeit
125- Dayza Daugherty - Won by forfeit
140- Izzie Carter - Won by forfeit
155- Zaylee Arrington - Won by forfeit
190- Sarah Kegley - Won by forfeit
235- KC Foster - Won by pin.

Turning the page, the Lady Tigers showed up big at the inaugural Hillsboro Veterans' Middle and High School Girls Wrestling Invitational, held Dec. 15 at Hillsboro High School. The Lady Tigers made school history, securing second place out of 11 teams and bringing home a trophy to be put in the case at McClain High School, the first of its kind.

The team totaled 110 team points that day. Finishers for the Lady Tigers were:

110- Maddie Brown - 4th
120- Dayza Daugherty - 1st
120- Lexie Burns - 2nd
125- Maddie Lee - 2nd
135- Izzie Carter- 2nd
190- Sarah Kegley - 1st
190- Abbie Couch - 2nd
235- Hannah Stewart - 1st
235- KC Foster - 2nd.

The Lady Tigers host the Roman Family Healthcare Invitational Saturday, Dec. 28.
