Basketball Report: McClain boys fall to Cavaliers and Bearcats

In two recent games, the McClain Tigers fell in games against two teams from Ross County, as they were defeated by the Chillicothe Cavaliers and the Paint Valley Bearcats.
On Friday, Feb. 7, the Tigers traveled to the home of the Cavaliers and lost by a 61-47 score in Frontier Athletic Conference action.
The Tigers trailed 16-6 at the conclusion of the first frame, and following a 19-8 second quarter, Chillicothe led the Tigers 35-14 at halftime.
In the second half, the Cavaliers scored 10 points in the third and 16 points in the fourth quarter. MHS won the third frame with an 11-point quarter, and in the fourth quarter they also scored the most points with a 22-point effort.
The Tigers were led by a trio of scorers, as Zane Adams, Jordan Bell and Hudson Lovett each scored 10 points.
Adams gained his points with a two-pointer, a 3-pointer, and he was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Bell made five two-point baskets, and Lovett’s points were from four two-point field goals and he was 2-of-2 with his free-throw attempts.
Brandon Greene totaled eight points for the Tigers with two two-pointers and a 4-of-4 effort from the free-throw line.
Connor Chandler finished with five points off a two-pointer and 3-pointer. Scoring two points each for McClain were Julien Evans and Owen Sykes.
For the game, McClain team totals were 15 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they were 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Chillicothe’s leading scorer was Cayden Cox with 25 points as he made nine two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and he was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Also for CHS, Andrew Hamman scored 15 points with four two-pointers, one 3-pointer, and a 4-of-4 performance from the free-throw line.
Other final scoring for CHS included Juan Miller (1), Vic Hitchens (2), Noah Netter (2), Cartae Ligon (5), Cooper Stoneking (5) and Cam Badger (6).
Totals for the Cavaliers were 18 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they went 19-of-24 from the free-throw line.
The following day, the McClain Tigers traveled back to Ross Country to take on the Paint Valley Bearcats in Bainbridge, where the Bearcats defeated MHS, 48-43.
McClain held a 14-8 lead when the first quarter finished, and the two teams had another 14-8 quarter with PV winning the frame for a tied score at halftime at 22-22.
In the second half, PV led the third at 16-13, and the fourth frame the Bearcats won the frame at 10-8 for the five-point win.
PV’s leading scorers were Braylon Robertson with 14 points, Jase Rinehart with 11 points and Colten Yoakum with 11 points.
The rest of the Bearcats’ scoring included Carson Free (6), Landon Elliott (3) and Jaxson Immell (3). Team totals for the Bearcats were 14 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they went 11-of-20 from the free-throw line.
McClain was led in scoring by Jordan Bell with 16 points, as he sank four 3-pointers and two two-pointers.
Hudson Lovett totaled 10 points with five two-point baskets.
MHS also had six points from Zane Adams who made two two-pointers and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Riley Cummins finished with five points as he sank a 3-pointer and two-point field goal.
Owen Sykes finished with four points off two baskets, and Julien Evans ended the game with two points as he made one basket.
The Tigers totaled 13 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers and were 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
MHS now has an overall record of 7-12.
