For the final time, two Highland County track athletes will be competing at the highest level, as both Whiteoak senior Landen Eyre and McClain senior Brenna Wright will take part in the final high school track meet of the season.

The 2025 State Track and Field Championships will take place Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Both athletes have competed before at the state level, as Eyre is the defending Division III state champion in the 3200-meter run, as he became Whiteoak’s first state champion a year ago as a junior. Eyre this season has been nearly unbeatable, winning Southern Hills Athletic Conference, Southeast District and regional championships.

Eyre is a four-time regional champion, winning last weekend in the 1600m race by setting a new regional record with a time of 4:15.97. Less than a hour later, Eyre won the 3200m run with a time of 9:17.50.

Last year at the state championships, Eyre won the 3200m state title with a time of 9:10.07. Also last year at state, in the 1600m run Eyre was third place overall with a time of 4:14.86.

Also this postseason, Eyre at districts won the 1600m run with a time of 4:19.77, and in the 3200m run his championship time at districts was 9:24.54.

In the SHAC meet this season, Eyre won his three individual conference championships by winning the 800m race with a time of 2:02.38, followed by a 1600m run-winning time of 4:40.40. Eyre’s 3200m SHAC first-place time was 10:18.63, as he battled the elements with rain. Also in the SHAC championships, Eyre was a member of the WHS 4x800m relay first place team that had a time of 8:53.66.

Eyre will compete in the Division III State events starting with his 1600m run on Saturday, June 7 at 10:05 a.m., as Eyre has the top time entering the event. Eyre will then race in the 3200m race also on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. where he, again, has the top time entering the event.

As for Wright, she’s qualified for state for a third consecutive year, as she’ll be competing at this year in the 300-meter hurdles race. At the Division II Regional Championships this past weekend, Wright finished with a time of 45.44 for third place, which is also a new personal-best time and new school record, according to McClain High School.

Also this season, the McClain senior Wright was a Frontier Athletic Conference champion in the 300m hurdles with a time of 46.00. Wright won the Southeast District championship in the event with a time of 46.28.

Wright has a history of qualifying at the state level, previously being a state qualifier as a junior in the 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay and the 100m hurdles. Wright also competed at the state meet as a sophomore in both the 100m hurdles and the 4x100m relay events.

Wright will race Friday, June 6 at 3:20 p.m. in Heat 2 of the prelims of the 300m hurdles.
