Lions improve to 15-0; earn 20-point win over Southeastern

For the 15th time in 15 opportunities this season, the Fairfield Lions left the court with a victory, the most recent occurrence coming Saturday night as they defended Grandle Gymnasium with a 69-49 victory over the visiting Southeastern Panthers. 

In the non-conference win, the Lions trailed 12-11 after the first quarter, but picked things up in the second quarter as they put 24 points on the board, while allowing 13 points, all while taking a halftime lead of 10 points at 35-25.

FHS outscored the Panthers with the same score in the third and fourth frames, as both quarters saw the home team Lions score 17 points and allow 12 points for what became a 20-point win. 

The Lions saw Larkin Friend collect 25 points for the Lions in the win, with the senior making 12 two-point buckets, and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. 

Logan McIntosh totaled 18 points, as he made five two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and he finished 2-of-2 in his free-throw attempts. 

There was also Trey House scoring in double figures, with House making five two-point baskets, and he went 1-of-1 from the free-throw line for 11 points. 

Gabe Fouch scored five points for Fairfield with two shots from the field and one made free throw on one attempt. Janre Lerio also scored five points for the Lions, also making two two-point baskets and making one free throw on one attempt. Cade Miller scored three points for FHS (a two-point basket and a free throw), and Chase Newman totaled two points for Fairfield, as he sank a two-point basket.

In all for the Lions, they made 28 two-point baskets and two 3-pointers, plus they were 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. 

For SEHS, Lane Williams led the way with 11 points. 

Fairfield’s win moves them to 15-0 overall this season, as the win helped move them to the No. 5 spot in the Associated Press Division IV state poll this week. 

Next for Fairfield is an away non-conference game against the McClain Tigers (4-11) in a battle of Highland County on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at MHS.
