Lady Lions win Div. II SHAC volleyball championship

Still having one game left on their Southern Hills Athletic Conference schedule, the Fairfield Lady Lions have clinched the Division II volleyball championship, winning on Thursday night against the Ripley Lady Blue Jays.
The win on Thursday over Ripley in three sets pushed Fairfield to an 11-1 conference record with one SHAC game left (against Fayetteville) on the schedule. Second-place Fayetteville is 8-3 in SHAC play this season and unable to catch FHS in the standings.
On Thursday at Grandle Gymnasium, the Lady Lions won by scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-10.
In the match, Fairfield totaled 68 digs, 39 kills, 38 assists, 13 aces and two blocks.
Leading the team in kills was senior Jobey Hattan with 14, as she also collected two aces, and nine digs.
Senior Kelsey Clark led FHS with 30 assists, while also collecting three aces (tri-leader), seven digs and one block.
Alyssa Bales, a sophomore, was tri-leader in aces for FHS with three, while also having 17 digs.
Sophomore Remi Moon and Bales were the co-leaders in digs with 17 each, as Moon also had seven kills, three assists and two aces.
Senior McKinley Cox was co-leader in blocks with one, as she also collected five kills, three aces (trio-leader), three digs and one assist, .
Senior Mackenzie Anderson totaled 10 digs, seven kills and two assists in the win.
Freshman Kelsie Crowder totaled three digs and one assist. Freshman Jorja May finished the win with three kills, two digs and one assist.
Fairfield junior Mya McIntosh had two kills, while freshman Paisley Stahlhut totaled one kill and three assists.
The win also moved Fairfield to an overall record of 13-5. The Lady Lions fell to Huntington in three sets Monday, bringing their record to 13-6.
Fairfield has three games left this regular season, starting with a Tuesday, Oct. 8 game at Hillsboro (Volley for a Cure). From there, on Wednesday, Oct. 9 the Lady Lions are scheduled to face Paint Valley at home, and on Thursday, Oct. 10, FHS will play their final SHAC game of the season at Fayetteville.
