Fairfield Lady Lions unable to stop Jackson

Playing the current champion of the Frontier Athletic Conference Monday night in non-conference play, the Fairfield Lady Lions of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference hosted Jackson and fell by eight points at 63-55. 

Fairfield and the Ironladies of Jackson (13-2) battled to score a combined 27 points in the first quarter, where Jackson led the host Lady Lions, 17-10. 

JHS won the second frame as well, this time outscoring FHS 19-9 for a halftime lead for the away team at 36-19. 

FHS (4-11) scored 12 points in the third frame and 24 points in the fourth quarter, and their opponent Jackson added 15 points in the third frame and 12 points in the fourth quarter. 

Faith Donley led Fairfield with 17 points, making one 3-pointer, six two-point baskets and she was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. 

Kelsey Clark totaled 14 points for FHS, as she made one 3-pointer, four two-point baskets and she was a perfect 3-of-3 in her free-throw attempts. 

Kassi Miller totaled eight points for Fairfield, sinking two 3-pointers and going 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. 

Also for the Lady Lions, Meri Jackson scored nine points with three two-point buckets and she finished 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

There was also Rilee Quickle totaling five points with a 3-pointer and two-point basket. Finishing the scoring for Fairfield was Vivian Henninger with two points. 

In all for Fairfield, they totaled five 3-pointers, 15 two-point baskets and were 10-of-12 with their free-throw opportunities. 

The Lady Lions also collected 20 rebounds, 15 assists, nine steals and one block. 

FHS committed 20 turnovers. 

The loss moves FHS to 4-11 overall, and they are currently 3-6 in the SHAC, currently third place in the SHAC Div. II standings. 

Next for Fairfield is an away game on Thursday, Jan. 25 at North Adams (9-1, 13-4).
