Fairfield Lady Lions fall in consecutive SHAC games to North Adams and Manchester

On Tuesday (April 14) and Thursday (April 15), the Fairfield Lady Lions softball team lost two games in Southern Hills Athletic Conference competition as they lost to the North Adams Lady Green Devils and Manchester Lady Greyhounds. 

In the Tuesday SHAC contest at NAHS, Fairfield lost by a 5-2 score in a game where the Lady Lions trailed 2-1 after the first inning and then 3-1 after a run crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth for North Adams. 

FHS scored their second and final run in the top of the sixth, but North Adams gained a three-run win with two final runs in the bottom of the seventh. 

Fairfield collected seven hits and committed three errors, while North Adams had 11 hits and one error. 

Rilee Quickle finished 2-for-3 with one run, a double and a steal for FHS. She also pitched six innings where she had six strikeouts. 

Alyssa Bales went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Kelsie Crowder was 1-for-3 with one run, as her hit was a triple. Jorja May finished 1-for-3, and Ally Maynard ended the day at 1-for-3. Jorgia Smith was 1-for-2 with one run, one RBI and a sacrifice fly. Whitlee Morrow had a sacrifice bunt in the game.

Thursday’s game against Manchester at FHS saw the contest go into extra innings where the Lady Greyhounds defeated Fairfield 12-9 in their SHAC game on April 16. 

Fairfield had a very strong beginning to the game with a six-run first inning for a 6-1 lead. The Lady Lions added a run in the bottom of the second for a 7-1 score in favor of the host Lady Lions. 

Manchester cut into Fairfield’s lead with a run in the top of the third, then it was FHS gaining that run and then some back with two runs crossing the plate in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-2 lead. 

Manchester continued to fight back with three runs in the top of the fifth, and later four runs in the top of the seventh inning, to eventually force extra innings with the score tied at 9-9. 

In the top of the ninth, the visiting Lady Greyhounds tacked on three runs to their side of the scoreboard for the eventual 12-9 victory over Fairfield. 

Manchester finished the SHAC game with 12 hits and one error, while Fairfield also had 12 hits, but also had three errors. 

Ally Maynard was 4-for-5 in the game with two runs, one RBI, a triple, one walk and a steal. She also pitched 0.2 innings, allowing no runs. 

Kelsie Crowder was 3-for-4 with one run, three RBI, two doubles and one walk. 

Alyssa Bales finished the game at 2-for-5 with one run, three RBI and a home run.

Rilee Quickle was 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, one HBP and a walk. She pitched 8.1 innings with six strikeouts. 

Ava White went 1-for-4 with a HBP. Layla Howard was hit by a pitch in the SHAC game, while teammate Jorjia May scored one run, forced a walk, had a sacrifice bunt and a steal. Whitlee Morrow scored a run for FHS and had two walks. Jorgia Smith finished with a run scored, one RBI and two walks. 

The two SHAC losses send Fairfield to an overall record of 12-5 with a 5-2 record in the Division II standings of the SHAC.
