Weak and fatigued? Physical rehab can help

Following surgery or an illness, you may find yourself feeling fatigued and weak. There are options through Physical Rehabilitation that can improve your health and get you back on your feet. Physical and Occupational Therapies specialize in improving and restoring an individual’s abilities through education and therapy.
The basic goal of Physical Therapy is to relieve pain, regain movement, restore function and motivate patients to work toward recovery. Physical therapy also assists people in adapting to any permanent physical changes.
Occupational Therapy works to recover or build skills for everyday activities necessary for self-care, work, or play. Using purposeful activity, occupational therapy seeks to minimize the effects of disability.
Physical Rehabilitation can benefit many people with a wide variety of conditions.
The following is a list of things which may indicate that you could benefit from Physical or Occupational Therapy:
You need to brush your hair, but can’t get your arm there.
You want to join in the game, but are feeling too lame.
You want to visit your neighbor for awhile, but the distance seems like a mile.
You want to go to the dance, but can’t pull up your pants.
You can’t bend your knee to get the cat down from the tree.
You feel if you slip you will fracture a hip.
You are starting to slouch and can’t get up from the couch.
You need to go the store but can’t open the door.
You can’t get to your feet to get something to eat.
You can’t use your arm to pull the alarm.
Although our list is humorous, we understand that physical impairment is no laughing matter. The slogan for Physical Therapy month was “Move Forward, Physical Therapy brings motion to life”, the slogan for Occupational Therapy month was “Living Life to it’s fullest”.
At Adena Greenfield Medical Center we work together to help the patients reach their potential after an injury or disease. We are also interested in the prevention of disease and injury to bring “motion to life” and help you “live life to its fullest”. A therapist can help you complete your activities in a safe and efficient manner. We can recommend individualized exercise plans to help you achieve your goals and maximize your recovery.
