SSU Occupational Therapy Program hosts Older Driver Safety Information Fair

The American Occupational Therapy Association Inc. has declared Dec. 3-7 Older Driver Safety Awareness Week this year.
To promote a broader awareness of the issue, Shawnee State University’s Master of Occupational Therapy program along with the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will be offering an Older Driver Safety Information Fair from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Wheelersburg Public Library.
The fair aims to promote understanding of the importance of mobility and transportation to ensure that older adults remain active in the community.
“Families with older adults are encouraged to attend,” said Christine Raber, associate professor of the MOT program. “Occupational therapists work with older adults as well as their families and caregivers. They can identify individuals’ unique challenges and find strategies that will help them live life to the fullest.”
Occupational therapy practitioners address driving as an essential activity of daily living and they can help older adults maintain their driving safety and community mobility despite age-related changes.
