REHEARSALS BEGIN SEPT. 21 – The Southern State Singers chorus will begin rehearsals Sept. 21, marking its 11th season of singing. Under the direction of John Glaze, the singers welcome participation from college students as well as community members. The chorus performs concerts throughout the academic year, presenting holiday music, light classics, show tunes and more.
Why join a community chorus? Glaze found plenty of reasons with the release of Chorus America’s Choral Impact Study. “There were four key findings of this survey,” said Glaze. “First, choral singing continues to be the most popular form of participation in the performing arts. Specifically, 18.1 percent of households report one or more adults currently participate in a chorus, an increase over the amount seen in 2003. This translates to an estimated 32.5 million adults regularly singing in choruses today. The second finding pointed out that adults who sing in choruses are remarkably good citizens,” he said. “Chorus members typically are avid patrons of the arts, volunteer significantly more frequently than the general public and exhibit greater civic leadership.”
Findings three and four concern children and the positive attributes found in those who participate in singing groups.
“Southern State has sponsored our community chorus for many years and Southern State Singers has represented the college throughout the region through its performances. As we begin our new season, we invite all those with a love of the joy of singing to come out and join us.”
Rehearsals begin 7 p.m. Sept. 21, in Room 107 at Southern State’s Central Campus in Hillsboro. For more information, please send an email to jglaze@sscc.edu.[[In-content Ad]]
