Sardinia, Mowrystown area to form new Lions Club

A new Lions Club is being organized in the Sardinia-Mowrystown community.
On April 19, 1940, the Sardinia-Mowrystown Lions Club was chartered and served the needs of both communities for over 70 years. Many may remember their building and the park where many youth played softball and soccer competitions. Among their many accomplishments, the Sardinia-Mowrystown Lions Club sponsored the Hillsboro Lions Club, which was chartered on April 3, 1946. However, with dwindling numbers and aging membership, coupled with the high cost of maintaining their property, the club chose to donate their property and turned in their charter in 2010.
In August 2012, during a two-day Lions Quest staff training session at Whiteoak High School, the staff asked if they could form their own Lions Club. In collaboration with Lions from District 13J and individuals from the village, school and business leaders of the surrounding area, a new Lions Club is being formed.
Lions Clubs are a group of community-minded citizens who work toward making their community a better place to live. One of their better-known projects is working with eyesight. In 1925, Helen Keller asked if the Lions could be the "Knights of the Blind."
