Nature sanctuary offers free weekend passes

By
-
The Highlands Nature Sanctuary, largest of 12 southern Ohio nature preserves managed by the Arc of Appalachia Preserve System, will be offering one free pass for each child accompanied by a paying guardian on weekends throughout September and October. The free child pass is available to all families living in the five county Arc of Appalachia region of Highland, Ross, Pike, Adams, and Scioto counties.
The non-profit organization has observed over the years that many local residents nostalgically recall activities once common in previous generations but no longer, such as Sunday picnics, walks, in the woods, and family driving tours to view fall color.
The Arc hopes to encourage the rekindling of such time-honored family activities by offering this special autumn promotion.
Highlands Nature Sanctuary is a 2000-acre natural area that is close to home, yet a destination that many Ohioans regard as the one of the most beautiful in the state. Scenery includes a lush landscape of ancient trees, deep grottos, the rushing waters of the Rocky Fork Creek, and the hundred-foot vertical walls of a deep gorge.
