On Sept. 22, the Edward Lee McClain High School class of 1955 held a reunion at the Overlook Banquet Center at Rocky Fork Lake, Hillsboro.
I would like to apologize to Arlene Malott Walker, Georgia Resor Dodd and Shirley Fetters Dick. When making the opening announcements, I inadvertently neglected to recognize them for the outstanding job they did in organizing this event. It required many hours of planning and hard work. Due to their efforts, all of us enjoyed a heart-stirring wonderful time.
We were privileged and elated to have as our honored guests three of our teachers and coaches. They were Mrs. Mabel Drummond, her son Anthony and his wife Missy; Mr. Paul Orr and wife Evelyn; and Mr. Robert Watts and wife Ruth Ann. Mr. T. J. Hike was unable to attend due to illness in the family. A great time was enjoyed with them looking back at days long gone by and learning what had been and was transpiring in our lives. It was a time spent together that will not soon be forgotten. The class of '55 salute our teachers/coaches … we will never forget them.
Forty-seven graduates were present and enjoyed a remarkable day of companionship, reminiscing, seeing memorabilia of our high school days and reacquainting with one another. Some stories, and even a few fun-loving lies, were told. It was all topped off with a delicious meal served by McCoy's Catering of Wilmington. Everyone was pleased with the food and service.
Hopefully, we all will be present for our 2015 reunion. In saying that, we recognized our beloved classmates that are no longer with us. They are not here in body, but they remain in our hearts forever and left us with wonderful memories to cherish. We salute them also.
