Lynchburg Library
Still Christmas shopping? The Lynchburg Historical Society has compiled several books about the village's history that make excellent, unique gifts for people on your shopping list.
There are 12 different books that chronicle the year 1960 (one for each month). Each volume contains clippings from the (now-defunct) Lynchburg News newspaper.
If you or a family member celebrated an important milestone in 1960, such as a graduation, birth, wedding, or anniversary, you might want to take a look at the corresponding volume or volumes to see if the announcement appears. There are plenty of photos from "the good old days" as well! The 1960 books are available for $8 each.
We have some of the Lynchburg baseball and softball books left also. These two books, which cover the Woody Williams and Bill Pfister eras in the local history of these sports, sell for $12 each. They are filled with team photos – look for people you know!
After taking the year 2011 off, the Historical Society has a new collectible calendar ready for 2012. It features photos of Lynchburg parades past, including floats, dragsters, bands, horses, and much more! The calendar is selling now for $10. Previous years are still available for $10 each as well, but are in limited supply.
They are:
2001, featuring paintings by local artist Marie Selph
2002, featuring paintings by local artist Glenn Aber
2003, featuring historical postcards from the collection of Glenn Brose
2004, featuring Lynchburg businesses of the past
2005, featuring a variety of historic Lynchburg photos & postcards
2006, featuring more historic photos, several from the collection of the Malone family
2007, featuring historic Lynchburg photos, some showing the same view "Then & Now"
2008, featuring a variety of historic Lynchburg photos
2009, featuring Lynchburg schools; includes teams, faculty, etc.
2010, featuring more Lynchburg businesses
All of the above books and calendars are available to purchase at the Lynchburg Historical Society building, Lukas Pharmacy, and from Historical Society members at the Lynchburg Library. Please call 364-2511 or 364-6101 for more information.[[In-content Ad]]
