Local men honored during Black History Month

The Rev. Hurd Scott Latimer and the late Charles E. Cole will be honored at the Black History Month program on February 16 at the Hillsboro Public Library.

A graduate of West High School in Columbus, Rev. Latimer went on to attend both the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Ranger Academy and Cedarville College.  

He was employed as a park ranger at Rocky Fork State Park from 1985 until his retirement in 2008.

Ordained in 1989, he currently serves as Pastor of Fall Creek Friends Church.

Charles Edward Cole

A Hillsboro High School graduate, Charles Edward Cole served in World War II.

He retired from the Wright Patterson Air Base after 28 years of service. He and his wife Elma McBride Cole had three children.  

Mr. Cole was an organizer and active member of the Highland County Community Action Organization for many years, serving as a special project director.  

He also served on the Veteran's Relief Board, the Highland County Housing Corporation and the Highland County Children's Service Board.  

Mr. Cole died in 1997.

The program will begin at 1 p.m. and everyone is invited. Light refreshments will follow.[[In-content Ad]]
