Lead Summary

Avery Elliott-
Due to the generosity of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church congregation, “Emergency Responder Sunday” was a very special and significant day in our church and in our community.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, the church honored local emergency responders during the traditional 9 a.m. service and in the First Church on 50 service at 11 a.m. There were 12 representatives attending the services, who were personally honored and thanked by the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church.

Each responder attending the service, along with all the responders on duty that Sunday morning, received a gift certificate for the Hillsboro Ponderosa. A total of 38 certificates, which were valued at $20 each, were given out, leaving the church with $1,000 to furnish bulletproof vests to be split between the Police Department and the Sheriff Department.

The church came together and baked over 140 dozen cookies and treats to give each emergency responder (a total of 130) a plate of cookies, along with thank-you notes written by children at the church and Wee Care students. When the cookies and treats were delivered to the responders, they were very appreciative that they each received a plate, and they thanked everyone involved.

The church also had 70 families pledge to uphold all local emergency responders in prayer during the coming year.
