Leesburg Library plans for upcoming holidays
By
Sharon Aukeman-
October signals the beginning of our busy holiday season here at the Leesburg Library. Our Christmas Merry Money Program sign up begins on Friday, Oct. 1. Children ages 2 through 6th grade can come in to get a log and start reading and earning money to buy Christmas presents for their friends and family.
All reading logs must be turned in by Monday, Nov. 22. The Leesburg Library Christmas elves will visit us again this year to help our readers with their shopping on Saturday, Dec. 4. Complete rules and details will be given upon registration.
Knit Together continues to meet on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m. Feel free to join the fun! The Library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 11 in observance of Columbus Day. Please use our outdoor book drop to return items.
Halloween fun for our teens takes place during their SPARX meeting on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. Costumes are optional, and we hope you will join us for our "Spooky Supper" and a 3-D horror flick. We will continue to discuss last month's book, "Graceling" by Kristen Cashore. All Leesburg area teens in the 7th grade and up are invited to attend. Please call us or stop in to sign up so we can have plenty of devilish delectables available for the supper.
Dawna Jo Kiesling from the Highland County Extension Office will visit with us on Thursday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. She will also present a program entitled "Healthy Holiday Cooking" at 5:30 p.m. that evening. While learning how to decrease fat and calories in baked goods, you can enjoy a slice of low calorie pumpkin pie! Please sign up at the front desk if you plan on attending.
Our adult book group, RRR will be having a lunch outing this month at Clifton Mill at 11:30 a.m. If you want to carpool, please meet at Barb's by 10:30 a.m. The book this month is reader's choice.
We hope you will be able to Trick or Treat with us on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 6-7 p.m. Please note that we are closed during the last hour of Beggar's Night, so if you want to get some treats from the library, you will need to arrive prior to 7 p.m.
Story times continue at 10 a.m. for Wee Ones and 10:30 a.m. for Tater Tots. Our themes this month include Fire Prevention Day, Apples & Autumn, Creatures of the Night and Happy Halloween. Stop by our front desk or call us with questions about our fun story times.
We look forward to your stopping by the Leesburg Library and letting us scare up a good book just for you during the month of October!
