Leesburg Friends Church to celebrate 100th anniversary

Leesburg Friends Church will celebrate their 100th anniversary of worship Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7.
On Saturday, a party will begin at 4 p.m. with a series of skits written and directed by Carolyn Fitzgerald with Carol Ridgeway as co-director. The cast and narrator will depict Leesburg Quaker history. At 6 p.m., a Quaker soup and sandwich meal will be served at the church (bring a dessert or side). At 7:30 p.m., the Quaker movie classic "Friendly Persuasion" will be shown, with popcorn served.
On Sunday, there will be a walk from the Fairfield Meeting House to the Leesburg Friends Church (weather permitting) at 9:30 a.m. Worship will be held at the church at 10 a.m., with renewal of church membership offered. Special music will be provided by Betsy, Paul, Melanie and the church choir. John Fitzgerald will bring the morning message. History excerpts from local newspapers of 1912-14 will be presented. A time capsule will be given a special commemoration. Church plates, cards and books will be available for sale. There will be a display of photographs, memories, Quaker clothing and artifacts. The church will have a 100th birthday cake and will create a greeting book and historic photos. A carry-in meal will then be held after worship.
Anyone able to display photos, artifacts, postcards and letters is asked to bring them to the Leesburg Friends Church by Friday, Oct. 6. Everyone is welcome to attend the festivities.[[In-content Ad]]
