Johnson recognizes 2 Scioto County history organizations
State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) this week recognized the Scioto Historical Project, created by Dr. Andrew Feight, at the 2023 Appalachia Heritage Luncheon.
The Scioto Historical Project, inaugurated in 2013, includes a mobile app, website and 10 local history tours involving key moments in Ohio history, such as the Underground Railroad, Ohio’s Little Smokies and prehistoric Native American landmarks.
“I commend Dr. Feight for the commitment of his time and resources to preserving and sharing Ohio history, especially in Scioto County,” said Senator Johnson. "Not only has he created a valuable resource for the community and the state, he has done so in a creative way that will benefit Ohio for years to come.”
The Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center, also located in Scioto County, was another one of this year’s honorees. Since its inception in 1977, the museum has grown dramatically, showing excellent business sense and initiative.
The Appalachia Heritage Luncheon, presented by Heritage Ohio and Ohio’s Hill Country Heritage Area, takes place every year to honor success stories in Ohio’s Appalachian region.
