Highland County Junior Fair Queen Contest set for Sept. 1

The Highland County Agricultural Society will hold the 2012 Highland County Junior Fair Queen Contest in the Multi-Purpose Building at the Highland County Fairgrounds on Sept. 1 at 11 a.m.

Candidates will be judged on poise and conduct; application and achievements; personal interview with judges; and oral presentation.

This activity and tradition highlights the hard work of the candidates' junior fair years.

The following are this year's finalists for Junior Fair Queen:

• Rachael Archibald is the daughter of Tom and Lisa Archibald of Hillsboro. She attends Hillsboro High School and is representing the Fur, Feathers and Friends 4-H Club. Rachael is active in her club, holding offices, and is a member of the Highland County Junior Fair Board. Her hobbies are 4-H, art and computer graphics.

• Jennylynn Butler is the daughter of Joe and Stacy Butler of Martinsville. She attends the ECOT Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow and is representing the Fantastics 4-H Club. Jennylynn has received numerous awards for her 4-H projects and has taken many of them to the Ohio State Fair. Her hobbies are 4-H, pageants, Junior Fair Board and Girl Scouts.

• Daelina Cowman is the daughter of Sunny Cowman and Bruce Barker of Bainbridge. She attends McClain High School and is representing Greene Countrie Farm Hands 4-H Club. Daelina has done very well with her rabbits and crops. Her hobbies are music, school and theater.

• Kayla Deatley is the daughter of Pam Claycomb and David Deatley of Hillsboro. She attends Hillsboro High School and is representing the Barnyard Bunch 4-H Club. Kayla has received numerous awards with her swine and was 2011 Highland County Pork Queen. Her interests are market barrows, soccer and scrapbooking.

• Hannah Hodge is the daughter of Carla Everhart of Greenfield. She attends McClain High School and is representing McClain FFA. Hannah has been active in many aspects of FFA, such as Leadership and Equine Judging. Her hobbies are horses and horseback riding.

• Morgan Lehr is the daughter of Aaron and Kelly Lehr of Hillsboro. She attended Whiteoak High School and is representing the Belfast Kids Unlimited 4-H Club. Morgan has achieved Champion Rate of Gain and Outstanding Market Exhibitor. Her interests are chickens, 4-H club treasurer and leadership.

• Haleigh Lovett is the daughter of Jonathan and Brenda Lovett of Hillsboro. She attends Hillsboro High School and is representing the Ready, Set, Show 4-H Club. Haleigh is active with her horses and served as Horse Queen. Her hobbies are horses, golf and swimming.

• Courtney Michael is the daughter of Brian and Cindy Michael of Hillsboro. She attended Hillsboro High School and is representing the Hillsboro FFA Chapter. Courtney has been very active in FFA, earning many awards and her American FFA degree. Her hobbies are reading, writing and sewing.

• Meredyth Rapp is the daughter of Debbie and Michael Rapp from Hillsboro. She attends Hillsboro High School and is representing Highland's Best 4-H Club. Meredyth has received many awards with her Family & Consumer Sciences projects and Outstanding Market Exhibitor with her goats. Her interests are art, softball and sewing.

• Kaitlin Unger is the daughter of Jason and Leah Unger of Greenfield. She attends McClain High School and is representing the Highland County Junior Leadership Club. Kaitlin has received many awards at the local and state levels for Clothing & Textiles. Her interests are basketball, 4-H, sewing and scrapbooking.
