Highland County Democrats draw strong turnout at Highland County Fair booth; Soup Supper set for Oct. 14

More than 200 visitors stopped by the Highland County Democratic Party booth during this year's Highland County Fair, party organizers reported, with door prizes awarded daily from Sunday through Saturday to help draw fairgoers in for conversation.

The booth also hosted two candidates seeking state office. Amy Wright, running for Ohio House District 91, and Brian Deer, a candidate for Ohio Senate District 17, spent several hours at the booth on Monday listening to Highland County residents talk about the issues facing their community and the state.

Party organizers credited the week's success to a large group of volunteers who staffed the booth throughout the fair. Jim and Dinah Phillips, along with Glen and Bootsie Robison, helped organize the effort. Also volunteering their time were Jolene and Ray Walker, Emmy Selby and Linda Emery, Mary Hamilton, Joyce Ford and Cindy Smith, Pam Limes and Debbie Robbins, Steve Hughes and Zana Smith, Marilyn Hiestand and Charlotte Harbutt, Jennifer West and Carol Kirkhart, Tara Pitzer, Bill and Carleen Alexander, and Garry Boone.

Party leaders extended their thanks to all who worked the booth and to the fairgoers who stopped by to share their views.

The Party will host a Soup Supper on Oct. 14th at the Hi-TEC Center, 1575 N. High Street, Hillsboro, beginning at 6 p.m. Lisa Parker, Mamaw’s Porch n Politics, will be sharing her views. She has a large following on Facebook and her podcasts. She is from Jackson and has been active in the Jackson County Democrat Party.  

A self-described porch sitting, community building, political influencer from the Appalachian region, with wit, grit and ”saltiness," she uses her “outside voice” to break down issues in a sensible, understandable way. In addition, there will be candidates in attendance currently running for office in the upcoming November elections. There is no charge for the dinner but donations will be accepted at the door. Please come and bring a friend.

• The Highland County Democratic Party will have a booth at the Jeep Cruise this Saturday, Sept. 19. Stop by for a free "vote blue" rubber ducky and enter the raffle for a toy Jeep. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Highland County Fairgrounds.

• The Highland County Democratic Party will distribute candidate yard signs in Greenfield on the courthouse square this Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. Stop by to get a sign for your favorite winning candidate.
