Heartland holds 9th annual chili challenge

Heartland of Hillsboro held its 9th annual chili challenge Wednesday, Feb. 27 with all proceeds going to the Highland County Society for Children and Adults.
Held at Heartland of Hillsboro, there were two categories, for mild and hot chili recipes. With a panel of judges made up of local officials and business owners, a first and second place winner was chosen in each category.
The winning recipe in each category will be featured during the annual chili supper and silent auction on March 7 from 5-7 p.m. at the Ponderosa Banquet Center. Pre-sale tickets are $5, with tickets at the door $6.
Carol Baer was the first place winner in the mild category, with Darlene Rhoades coming in second. The hot category winner was Sandy Leedy, with second place going to Brad Roades.
The events are sponsored by Gibbs Associates Insurance, Heartland of Hillsboro, The Highland County Press, Kroger, NCB, Hillsboro Ponderosa Steak House, Wilkin-Wilkin Insurance and Buckeye Country.
