Local artist Gretchen Huffman is displaying her portraits of family members and friends at the Hillsboro Public Library during the month of October. Gretchen largely self-taught although she has worked with Violet Linton of Leesburg and James Werline of Southern State Community College.
She works in oil and watercolor. For her portraits, she works from photographs, usually of her own taking.
In the spring of this year, Gretchen's portrait of her daughter-in-law, Melody, took the Best of Show Overall at the Putnam County Fair in Palatka, Fla. Several other portraits are on permanent display locally.
She is a member of the local artist group at the Senior Center as well as the Brush and Palette Art Guild and a group in Florida.
