I love fall! The lovely colors, warm sunny days, apples, pears and pumpkins – all join to make a beautiful season (and also some yummy pies).

And after the summer busy-ness, maybe there will be more time to sit down and read. We have lots of great new books to tempt you. Stop in and check them out.

Also check out these upcoming events:

• OCTOBER 1 is the beginning of our fall/Christmas reading promotion. “Season’s Readings Christmas Club” is for children age 3 through grade 6.

At signup, children will receive a book bag, reading log, and a McDonald’s coupon. They then check out and read books throughout October and November.

For each 5 books read, they receive $1 in “Merry Money.” They then will have the opportunity to use their money to buy gifts for their family at the Library Christmas gift shop on Dec. 1. This will be our 16th year for our Christmas program, and it is always a hit.

• OCTOBER 1 – 1-3 p.m. – BEGINNER QUILTING GROUP. This is an ongoing quilting group led by Anna Tompkins. They work together, learn how to do new things, & just enjoy sharing the time together. Everyone is invited to join the group.

• OCTOBER 2, 9, 16, & 23 – 5-7 p.m. – COMMON SENSE HORSEMANSHIP – This workshop will be led by J. L. PARKER. His teaching philosophy is based on “Safety, Focus, Respect, and Love.” Skills included in the workshop will be: Ground-school exercises, Round-pen lounging, Proper saddling & bridling, Safe leading and other horsemanship skills. Call or stop by and pre-register for this free workshop.

• OCTOBER 4 – 11 a.m.-noon – STROKE SUPPORT GROUP – this group is for stroke survivors, caregivers, or families of stroke victims. It will be the first Thursday of each month and is presented by the Greenfield Area Medical Center.

• OCTOBER 8 - Library will be closed for Columbus Day.

• OCTOBER 17 – 5:00 PM - THE BOOKWORMS (adult book discussion group) – The book for October will be “Loving Frank” by Nancy Horan. Stop by, pick up a book & join us. Everyone is welcome.

We want to thank Jonathan Stewart for his baseball card display. There has been much interest in it.

Weekly storytime for age 2-4 – Tuesday – 11 a.m. Activities include stories, craft, & lots of fun.

Check out our website at www.highlandco.org. You’ll be surprised at all the features. One feature is searching our catalog online and placing your holds at home for items you want – we will then contact you when your item is here. It makes for a quick in and out for those busy days.

Greenfield Public Library is located at 1125 Jefferson Street, Greenfield. Hours: Mondays-Thursdays – 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Fri- 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays - 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The telephone number is (937) 981-3772.
