Greenfield Historical Society hosts cemetery walk Aug. 26

On Sunday, Aug. 26, join the Greenfield Historical Society on a stroll down memory lane – literally.
The society is hosting a cemetery stroll from 1-5 p.m. in the old section of the cemetery located on N. Washington Street in Greenfield.
The society has created a walking tour in the original portion of the cemetery. Gravesites of famous and no so famous Greenfielders, along with unusually carved tombstones, are highlighted in a
self-guided walking tour.
Also included in the walking tour booklet are the meanings of many of the old symbols found on tombstones.
Walkers will start at the Memorial Chapel where they can view an exhibit about early monument companies and early tombstone carvers. At the Chapel, walkers will receive the 24-page booklet with highlights and information about the cemetery.
Also included is the Civil War Monument, the Wright Mausoleum and the Greenfield Mausoleum.
Locations of the graves highlighted will be marked and members will be throughout the cemetery to
help answer questions.
Light refreshments and shade will be available at the society's tent at the Chapel.
