Greenfield Historical Society to hold Tour of Homes, showcase nativity display

The Greenfield Historical Society is announcing an exciting new event that will be accompanying its annual Tour of Homes. On Sunday, Dec. 2 from noon - 5 p.m., the society will be hosting a display of 40 nativities, also called creches, on loan from the University of Dayton's Marian library. Their library has one of the largest collections of international nativities in the United States and perhaps the world. The UD collection is over 3,000 creches.
Earlene Scott, a board member for the society, has worked with UD and arranged for Greenfield Historical Society to host 40 nativities and share them with the residents of Greenfield and the surrounding communities. The display will include nativities from Asia, Africa, North and South America and Europe. Each creche will be unique and different, showing various cultures and denominations and made from a variety of materials. A large Christmas tree adorned with 100 small nativity ornaments will be on display also.
All this will take place on Sunday afternoon from noon - 5 p.m. at the Konneker Education Museum at 245 South Street in Greenfield. Admission for the nativity display is free.
This display is a one-day-only event; however, 21 smaller nativities will be on display at the Greenfield library during the month of December. This, too, will be part of the University of Dayton's Marion library collection.
So come see the beautiful nativities and experience the timeless Christmas message of peace from all around the world.
Also happening on that day will be the society's annual Tour of Homes and baked steak dinner at the Grain and Hay building at 23 Jefferson Street at the far east end of town. The $8 meal will consist of baked steak with mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, cake and beverage. The showcases at the Grain and Hay building are decorated with some beautiful vintage hats, jewelry and toys for viewing.
Lastly, come tour three beautiful homes and the First United Methodist Church from noon-5 p.m. More information about the Tour of Homes will be forthcoming. There is a $10 fee for the tour. Come and enjoy an afternoon of fun and Christmas in Greenfield on December 2.[[In-content Ad]]
