The Highland County Dog Pound has the following dogs available for adoption or rescue pulls as of July 2, listed courtesy of the Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound.
(1) George: George is a black and tan coonhound who is around 3 years old. He currently weighs 50 lbs, but he is very skinny. George does have some skin issues, as you can probably see in the pictures. He is a very sweet dog who had most likely been used for hunting at one point in his life. George is very stressed out and not doing well here in the shelter.
(2) Lexi: Lexi is a Shepherd/Doberman mix who is 7 years old. She weighs around 50 lbs. She has been around cats and kids and other dogs. She was an owner surrender due to her owner having to move.

(3) Casper: Casper is a male shepherd mix who came in as a stray. Casper had been staying in the same spot on the side of a busy roadway for two days due to not wanting to leave his friend who didn’t make it. Casper was so happy to see us. He is pretty skinny for his size, weighing only 43 lbs. He is very young, between 1-2.
(4) Leah: Leah is a female beagle mix who is 2-3 years old and weighs 41 lbs. While 41 lbs may seem like a lot, Leah is very petite. She is very sweet and does fine with other dogs.
(5) Bones: Bones came to us after his owner passed away. A woman who cared for the owner said that Bones was a stray that had showed up. He got his name because he was exactly that, skin and BONES. Bones is a young, loving mixed breed.
(6) Diesel: Diesel is a time urgent NEUTERED male mixed breed who came to us as a stray. He is very friendly and loves to play and get loved on. He has done well with other dogs at the pound. Diesel has been with a foster for a few months, and she reports he has been very good with her dogs and cats. He is short and stocky, weighing around 50 lbs. He falls in love with anyone he meets, dogs or people. Intake date: 4/29/24.
(7) Flopsy: Flopsy is a beautiful pit girl who is 2-3 years old and weighs 55 lbs. Flopsy got her name because when you go to pet her, she flops on the ground wanting all the belly rubs you will give her. She loves people and has a very loving personality. This sweet girl has never shown any type of aggression, and she seems to be OK with other dogs. Intake date: 3/8/24.

(8) Iris: Iris is a mixed breed weighing around 40 lbs. She is very outgoing and sweet. Seems fine with other dogs.
(9) Kalanie: Kalanie is a female mixed breed (large) who is around 2 years old and weighs around 65 Ibs. Kalanie is very sweet and loves people although women are her go to. She seems to be fine with other dogs here.

(10) Buttercup: Buttercup is a mixed breed female who weighs around 30 lbs. She is still very young, likely around a year. She is very sweet, gets along with other dogs and even seems to be good with kids. Such a sweetheart, you'll love each other immediately.

(11) Trigger: Trigger is a 96 lb. German Shepherd who came to us as a stray. He is estimated at 3-4 years old. He is very friendly and seems to be OK with other dogs.
(12) Rambo: Rambo is mixed breed, probably some border collie, who weighs 50 lbs. He is around 3 years old and is very friendly with humans and other dogs. Rambo does well on a leash.
(13) Mabel: Meet Mabel. Mabel is a Lab/shepherd mix who is around 2 years old. She has a lot of energy but can also be calm. She is good with other dogs. Very sweet temperament. Look at her beautiful brown eyes.

(14) Sky: Sky is a female mixed breed who weighs around 50 lbs. We believe she is around 3 years old, and she is good with other dogs.
(15) Weezy: Weezy is a female mixed breed who came to us as a stray. Weezy is around a year old and weighs 35 lbs. Weezy is very friendly and seems to be OK with other dogs. Weezy got her name because she was born with a smaller trachea than normal, so it makes her wheeze all the time. The vet said it doesn't seem to hurt her or anything as of right now. She is very energetic and loves to play.
We would be pleased to answer any questions you may have about these wonderful dogs.
