The Highland County Dog Pound has the following dogs available for adoption or rescue pulls as of Aug. 18, listed courtesy of the Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound.

(1) Daisy Mae: Daisy Mae is a Basset Hound Mix. Daisy still weighs almost 40 Ibs. but has the short stubby legs, a long body, and long droopy ears. Daisy is very friendly and seems to be good with other dogs. Daisy Mae came to us as a stray who had puppies previously.

(2) Lexi: Lexi is a Shepherd/Doberman mix who is 4 years old. She weighs around 50 Ibs. She has been around cats and kids and other dogs. She was an owner surrender due to her owner having to move.

(3) Sasha: Sasha is a French Bulldog who weighs around 30 Ibs. and is around 3 years old. If you have seen our other Frenchies on here, this girl was one of 8 that we had. Sasha was supposed to be adopted, but she gets a little too rowdy with younger children. With that being said, Sasha just got spayed on Thursday. Sasha does have your typical Frenchie problems. Her ears are not that great and need attention. The picture is from the night we took her in. If better pictures are wanted, please let us know and I can get those to you.

(4) Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle and Gingerbread: These pups came to us as strays. 3-month-old mixed breeds currently weigh about 10-15 lbs. Very friendly, playful, ready for a second chance.

(5) Mercedes & Tesla: These two girls are around 3 months old and already weigh 20 Ibs. Our guess is they are Anatolian Shepherd, maybe a mix. Very friendly, playful but also calm pups. They look very much alike.

(6) Rosie & Kelly: These two girls are mother and daughter. We would prefer them to go together, but it's not a must. Rosie and Kelly were surrendered to us after their owner lost their rental home and they are now homeless, living in their car. Rosie is a toy poodle mix around 13 years old and weighs about 10 Ibs. With Rosie's age comes problems. Her teeth are not in good condition at all, so she is only on canned food. She is very sweet. Kelly is around 7 years old and also weighs around 10 Ibs. She is a Terrier mix. Very sweet but scared since she had only ever known her previous owners since she was a puppy. She will cower down when you enter her area, but she has never shown aggression. She lets us pick her up and pet her.

Kelly, Ranger

(7) Ranger: Ranger is a Walker Coonhound who is around 6 years old. He weighs 47 lbs. He seems to be OK with other dogs. Seems to have been trained for hunting. He has a beautiful picture-perfect stance.

Chance, Sam

(8) Chance: Formerly named Bear, we have renamed him Chance. We want him to have a second chance at happiness. Chance has been an outside dog for at least 2 years, having nothing but a dog box and some food every now and again from neighbors. Chance's previous owners lived in a tent and had to go away for some time all while the nice neighbors made sure Chance would survive. Chance was found running at large in which the owner never came to claim him. He weighs around 55 lbs and is 3-4 years old.

(9) Sam: Sam is a Cocker Spaniel. He came to us after his owner had passed away and the son could not care for Sam. He is around 11-12 years old. Sam weighs right at 40 lbs, which is a bit big for his breed. He is very friendly and OK with other dogs, although he would be just fine as an only dog. Sam is pretty scared here in the shelter setting.
