The Highland County Dog Pound has the following dogs available for adoption or rescue pulls as of Aug. 14, listed courtesy of the Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound.
(1) Clifford: Clifford is a very gentle giant who weighs 100 lbs. Along with him being a very big dog, Clifford also has a very big heart. He is around 2-3 years old and already neutered. He is dog and people friendly. He is amazing on a leash. We also think Clifford may be house trained. Clifford is also not one who is going to beg at dinner time. He goes away and lays down and waits until you're done. There are too many good things to say about Clifford in one post.
(2) Albert: Albert is a Doodle who came to us as a surrender. Albert was in a house with 23 other dogs and lived with children. Albert is around 3 years old and weighs 50 lbs. Albert is friendly with our kennel tech but still has his guard up with our dog warden. Albert is only able to be pulled by a rescue for us.
(3) Lexi: Lexi is a Shepherd/Doberman mix who is 7 years old. She weighs around 50 lbs. She has been around cats and kids and other dogs. She was an owner surrender due to her owner having to move.
(4) Marshall: Marshall came to us as a stray. He is roughly around 3 years old and weighs 47 lbs. He is very sweet and such a good boy. Marshall seems to do fine with other dogs.
(5) Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle and Gingerbread: These pups came to us as strays. 3-month-old mixed breeds currently weigh about 10-15 lbs. Very friendly, playful, ready for a second chance.
(6) Pepper: Pepper is a mix who is around 2 years old and weighs 38 lbs. We're not kidding when we say Pepper is the best dog you will find. She is very sweet and loyal. She does amazing on a leash. She is also good with kids and other dogs. She is very calm so cats may not be an issue either, but we cannot say for sure. Pepper is not spayed and has previously had a litter of pups. Her previous owner did contact us during stray hold but never showed up to claim her. Please help her find a deserving family.

(7) Mabel: Meet Mabel. Mabel is a Lab/shepherd mix who is around 2 years old. She has a lot of energy but can also be calm. She is good with other dogs. Very sweet temperament. Look at her beautiful brown eyes.
(8) Ranger: Ranger is a Walker Coonhound who is around 6 years old. He weighs 47 lbs. He seems to be OK with other dogs. Seems to have been trained for hunting. He has a beautiful picture perfect stance.

(9) Chance: Formerly named Bear, we have renamed him Chance. We want him to have a second chance at happiness. Chance has been an outside dog for at least 2 years, having nothing but a dog box and some food every now and again from neighbors. Chance's previous owners lived in a tent and had to go away for some time all while the nice neighbors made sure Chance would survive. Chance was found running at large in which the owner never came to claim him. He weighs around 55 lbs and is 3-4 years old.
(10) Sam: Sam is a Cocker Spaniel. He came to us after his owner had passed away and the son could not care for Sam. He is around 11-12 years old. Sam weighs right at 40 lbs, which is a bit big for his breed. He is very friendly and OK with other dogs, although he would be just fine as an only dog. Sam is pretty scared here in the shelter setting.

(11) Mercedes & Tesla: These two girls are around 3 months old and already weigh 20 lbs. Our guess is they are Anatolian Shepherd, maybe a mix. Very friendly, playful but also calm pups.
We would be pleased to answer any questions you may have about these wonderful dogs.
