Events scheduled for Junior Fair

4-H Fair Style Revue 

The 4-H Style Revue will be held at the Highland County Fair of all the beautiful outfits that were made by the 4-Hers this year.  Everyone is welcome to attend this event which will be held in the Multi Purpose Building on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 1 p.m.

This will be an exciting event, so come on out to the Fair to see everything and stop by and rest your feet while you relax and watch the Style Show. 

 

 

Junior Fair Baking Contest

The three Junior Fair Baking contests held in the Junior Fair Building will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8.  All three of the catagories will compete during Wednesday morning.  The schedule is as follows:

Advanced (ages 14-18) – Pie Crust 

Intermediate (ages 11-13) – Coffee Cake Muffins

Beginner (3rd grade through age 10) – Sugar Cookies

 

Participants are responsible for bringing all the equipment needed for preparing their recipe.  Kroger will be donating all the ingredients, thanks Kroger!!!  Older youth will help with managing the ovens for the younger members.

The members learn how to manage food preparation, plan ahead and work under a time limit.  The judging grade is based on the following: Food Preparation counts 50 percent. This includes following directions, using correct methods, proper use of equipment and neatness.  The finished product also counts 50 percent. This includes the appearance, flavor and quality.

Chairs are provided for the audience. Recipe sheets are made available and foods may be sampled.

4-H SEWING CHALLENGE

The 4-H Sewing Challenge held in the Junior Fair Building on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m.  The categories are as follows:

Advanced (ages 14-18) – Front Band Placket/Facing (Polo Style neckline)

Intermediate (ages 11-13) – Inseam Pocket w/Extension

Beginner (Third grade through age 10) – Elastic Waist Casing

 

All the equipment and supplies needed for the contest will be furnished.  The members use the sewing skills they have learned to complete the sewing task.  Chairs are provided for the audience.  The Adult Superintendents are Diane Keltner, Kathy Keltner and Rose Fisher Merkowitz. 

 

Nutrition Bowl Contest

 

The Nutrition Bowl Contest is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, in the Junior Fair Building.  The time is from 9 a.m. until noon.  Superintendents are Jennifer Brinker, Helen Caplinger, Anne Lerch, and Rose Fisher Merkowitz.

The Junior contest is designed for members ages 9-10, Intermediate ages 11-13 and the Senior contest for ages 14-19.  In this contest, members may compete either as individuals (Junior, Intermediate and Senior) or as teams (Junior and Senior).  Questions are asked on all phases of food including nutrition, cooking, table setting, meal planning, food safety, etc.

This is open to all the 4-H members.  They do not have to be taking a food and nutrition project.  This is a fun activity for all 4-H members.
