'Dead Serious ... About Life' to be performed at SSCC

A musical drama performance of "Dead Serious …. About Life" will be presented Saturday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18 at Southern State Community College's central campus in Hillsboro. The performance on Saturday will begin at 6 p.m., and the Sunday performance will begin at 3 p.m. The musical will be presented by the group Mishpachah, Inc., which is based out of Mason, Ohio.
Mishpachah ("Mish"), named for the Hebrew word for "family" or "clan," is an auditioned community drama/music group of high school students from the Cincinnati area. Mish is known for radical and exceptional style and choreography. In the 2011-12 performance year, the group consisted of 36 students represented 20 different school districts and 24 different churches. This year's group includes three Highland County teens: Lydia Bolitho, Micah Claiborne and Jarrod Page.
Since June 1989, Mish has been performing the musical "Dead Serious … About Life," which deals with many issues teens face, including abortion, alcohol, drugs and religion. The underlying subject matter is teenage suicide. Throughout the course of the evening, many teenage characters with different personalities, numerous problems and varying views about their lives are introduced.
Mish has performed at various churches, high schools and amusement parks in 20 states.
