Fairfax church
hosts rummage sale
Fairfax United Methodist Church will hold a rummage sale and bake sale
March 16-17 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The church is located at 1345 state Route
247. The Soul'd Out Quartet will perform in concert at the Fairfax Methodist

Prisoners of Hope
plays at Colony March 17
This Saturday March 17 at 7:30 p.m., Prisoners of Hope will be in
concert at the Colony Theater in Hillsboro Ohio. Cost is $5.00 a person.
Prisoners of Hope is a Christian Rock Band that plays all over southern Ohio
and just recently played in South Carolina. They are a very good band who
play a mix of covers and originals.
Prospect United Methodist Church
holds soup supper March 17
The Prospect United Methodist Church, located at the corner of state
Route 73 and Prospect Road, will hold its annual soup supper on Saturday,
March 17 from 4:30-7 p.m. The menu will include vegetable soup, potato soup,
broccoli soup, chili, sloppy joes, hot dogs, coneys, sides, homemade pies
and cookies, a vegetable tray and drinks. Everyone is welcome to attend. A
freewill donation will be accepted.

• On March 17 at 7:30 p.m., the Highland County Historical Society's
Heritage Music Series will feature Celtic music for St. Patrick's Day.
Social hour will start at 7:30 with appetizers and punch with music program

• The Highland County Historical Society's annual St. Patrick's Day brunch

Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission’s (OVRDC) annual Full
Commission Meeting and Election of Officers will be held on Thursday, March
29 in Brown County at the Southern Hills Career & Technical Center, 9193

p.m. with the meeting beginning at 6 p.m.
OVRDC Full Commission members have received registration information and

Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, located at 4679 state Route 41 SE
in Washington C.H., will hold a pork tenderloin/grilled chicken breast

Fish Fry at St. Mary
The Highland County Firefighter Association and St. Mary Catholic School
are having a fish fry every Friday during Lent in the school hall at 119 E.
Walnut St. Dinners will be served from 4:30-6:30 PM. Dinner includes fish
sandwich, fries, cole slaw and drink for $7. Desserts are $1. Carryout is

of Sportsmen events
The Cowan Lake Association of Sportsmen (CLASS) will host a soup and
salad smorgasbord dinner on Friday, March 30 from 4-7 p.m. The menu will

School District
kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration for students living in the Lynchburg-Clay
School District will be held on Wednesday, April 4 in the Lynchburg-Clay
Elementary building. Students with last names beginning with A-L will
register from 9-11:30 a.m. Students with last names beginning with M-Z will
register from 12:30-3 p.m.
In order to enroll, the parents must provide the following:
• An official birth certificate. This can be acquired from the health
department in the county of your child’s birth. Your child must be five
years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2012.
• An up-to-date immunization record. The state laws of Ohio require that
certain immunizations must be completed before the child enters school.
• Your child’s Social Security card.
• Proof of residence. A bill that is mailed to your house is acceptable. A
driver’s license is not acceptable.
• Custody papers, if applicable.
• Driver’s license or photo ID.
During registration, your child does not need to be present.
Parents/guardians will be selecting a time on April 18 or 19, at which time
students need to be screened for hearing and vision. The student will also
have fingerprinting done, complete a physical and meet with one of the
kindergarten teachers.

SWCD tree seedling sale
Now is the perfect time to start planning for your spring plantings by
ordering tree seedlings through the Highland Soil and Water Conservation
District’s annual tree seedling sale. This year’s sale will offer hardy
seedlings, as well as wildflower seed packets and white vinyl flags. There
will be a variety of tree seedling packets offered on a first come, first
serve basis so be sure to get your order in early. Order forms can be picked
up at the Highland SWCD office located at 514 Harry Sauner Road, Suite 2 in

3-alarm chili cook-off and soup supper
The Leesburg Lions Club is sponsoring a “3-Alarm Chili Cook-off” and

chili is $10 and all entries, including mild, medium, or 3-alarm chili, will

Buford Community Church

17 at 7 p.m. Several local artists will be performing, including Debbie

will be the Mime Choir from Chillicothe Agape Fellowship Church. Even if you

The following are the 2012 summer hours for the Highland County
Engineer's Office and County Highway Department. Effective April 2 through
Oct. 4, 2012, the Highland County Engineer's Office and County Highway
Department will be working four (4) ten
(10)-hour days, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All business
should be conducted during these hours. The office and highway garage will
be closed all day Friday effective with the above dates. After-hour
emergencies will continue to be handled by calling the Highland County
Sheriff at 393-1421.

The Highland County Women's Republican Club will have a business meeting

Family fun day March 24
The Highland County Farm Bureau will sponsor its annual Family Fun
Day and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 24 from 8-11 a.m. at the Highland
County Fairgrounds. The day will feature a pancake and sausage breakfast, a
petting zoo, displays by Five Points Implement, a county Humane Society
display with pet adoption available and a kiddy tractor pull for all youth
ages 5-17. Registration for the tractor pull is at 10 a.m. The main event
will be the Easter Egg Hunt, and it will be in three age categories. There
will be at least 700 eggs in each category. The classes will be ages 7-9,
ages 4-6 and ages 3 and under. The first class will begin at 9 a.m., and the
other classes will follow.

First Presbyterian Church
of Greenfield hosts free meal
The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will host their monthly free
meal on March 18th from 4:30-6 p.m. The menu will include grilled

First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will be serving brunch on Sunday,
March 25 from noon-2 p.m. in the church basement. The menu will include

Whiteoak holds Adult
Computer Basics Courses
Adult Computer Basics Courses will be offered again this Spring at
Whiteoak High School! The classes will be taught by the advance computer
applications class and will include an introduction lesson to Microsoft
Office 2010 Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with getting to know the
computer components and G-mail. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and
Thursdays in April from 10-11 a.m. The first class starts on April 3, and
will be held in the high school computer lab across from the high school.

Open door free meal
The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield Methodist Church

Fairfield fundraiser March 23
A Pizza Bingo Night fundraiser will be held Friday, March 23 from 7-9
p.m. in the Fairfield High School auditeria. Admission is free. The cost for
bingo is $10 for one card, $15 for two cards and $20 for four cards.
Concessions will also be sold. Bingo winners will receive a pizza gift
certificate and a two-liter bottle of pop. Proceeds will benefit Fairfield's
prom.

The Highland County Firefighter Association and St. Mary Catholic School
are having a fish fry every Friday during Lent in the school hall at 119 E.

of Sportsmen events
The Cowan Lake Association of Sportsmen (CLASS) will host a soup and
salad smorgasbord dinner on Friday, March 30 from 4-7 p.m. The menu will

kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration for students living in the Lynchburg-Clay
School District will be held on Wednesday, April 4 in the Lynchburg-Clay
Elementary building. Students with last names beginning with A-L will
register from 9-11:30 a.m. Students with last names beginning with M-Z will
register from 12:30-3 p.m.
In order to enroll, the parents must provide the following:
• An official birth certificate. This can be acquired from the health
department in the county of your child’s birth. Your child must be five
years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2012.
• An up-to-date immunization record. The state laws of Ohio require that
certain immunizations must be completed before the child enters school.
• Your child’s Social Security card.
• Proof of residence. A bill that is mailed to your house is acceptable. A
driver’s license is not acceptable.
• Custody papers, if applicable.
• Driver’s license or photo ID.
During registration, your child does not need to be present.
Parents/guardians will be selecting a time on April 18 or 19, at which time
students need to be screened for hearing and vision. The student will also
have fingerprinting done, complete a physical and meet with one of the
kindergarten teachers.

SWCD tree seedling sale
Now is the perfect time to start planning for your spring plantings by
ordering tree seedlings through the Highland Soil and Water Conservation
District’s annual tree seedling sale. This year’s sale will offer hardy
seedlings, as well as wildflower seed packets and white vinyl flags. There
will be a variety of tree seedling packets offered on a first come, first
serve basis so be sure to get your order in early. Order forms can be picked

The following are the 2012 summer hours for the Highland County
Engineer's Office and County Highway Department. Effective April 2 through
Oct. 4, 2012, the Highland County Engineer's Office and County Highway
Department will be working four (4) ten
(10)-hour days, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All business
should be conducted during these hours. The office and highway garage will
be closed all day Friday effective with the above dates. After-hour
emergencies will continue to be handled by calling the Highland County
Sheriff at 393-1421.

Family fun day March 24
The Highland County Farm Bureau will sponsor its annual Family Fun
Day and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 24 from 8-11 a.m. at the Highland
County Fairgrounds. The day will feature a pancake and sausage breakfast, a
petting zoo, displays by Five Points Implement, a county Humane Society
display with pet adoption available and a kiddy tractor pull for all youth
ages 5-17. Registration for the tractor pull is at 10 a.m. The main event
will be the Easter Egg Hunt, and it will be in three age categories. There
will be at least 700 eggs in each category. The classes will be ages 7-9,
ages 4-6 and ages 3 and under. The first class will begin at 9 a.m., and the
other classes will follow.

The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will host their monthly free

First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will be serving brunch on Sunday,
March 25 from noon-2 p.m. in the church basement. The menu will include

Whiteoak holds Adult
Computer Basics Courses
Adult Computer Basics Courses will be offered again this Spring at
Whiteoak High School! The classes will be taught by the advance computer
applications class and will include an introduction lesson to Microsoft
Office 2010 Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with getting to know the
computer components and G-mail. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and
Thursdays in April from 10-11 a.m. The first class starts on April 3, and
will be held in the high school computer lab across from the high school.

Open door free meal
The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield Methodist Church

Fairfield fundraiser March 23
A Pizza Bingo Night fundraiser will be held Friday, March 23 from 7-9
p.m. in the Fairfield High School auditeria. Admission is free. The cost for
bingo is $10 for one card, $15 for two cards and $20 for four cards.
Concessions will also be sold. Bingo winners will receive a pizza gift
certificate and a two-liter bottle of pop. Proceeds will benefit Fairfield's
prom.
