Countywide
curfew Oct. 1-31
Countywide curfew will commence Monday, Oct. 1 for all persons under the
age of 18. The curfew will run through Oct. 31 and require all persons under
the age of 18 to be off the streets and in their homes by 10 p.m., Monday
through Friday and by midnight Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The curfew does not apply where children are accompanied by parents,
legal guardians or custodians. Exception is also made for children attending
church, school or employment activities.
Enforcement will be handled by all law enforcement agencies, including
the sheriff's department, city or village police and juvenile probation
officers.
After consultation with law enforcement, it is requested each
jurisdiction set beggar's night on Thursday, Oct. 25 from 6-8 p.m.

SCIP funding cycle
deadline application Oct. 5
The State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP), better known as the State
Issue 1 Program, the Small Governments Capital Improvement Program and the Local Transportation Improvement Program (LTIP) are beginning their Round 27 funding cycles. Through these programs, financial assistance for public infrastructure projects is available to subdivisions in District 15, which
includes the following southern Ohio counties: Adams, Brown, Fayette,
Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton.
Counties, cities, villages, townships and certain special water and
sewer districts may submit applications for funding. Eligible projects
include the construction, repair or replacement of roads, bridges and
culverts, along with water, wastewater and storm water systems. Financial
assistance is available in the form of grants, no-interest loans and loan
assistance (payment of interest on loans from other funding sources for a
two-year period). The programs are competitive, as projects compete for
funding with each other for a set allocation of funds. Each project is
scored using an objective rating system, and funds are awarded on the basis
of those scores.
The deadline to submit completed applications to the respective county
is Oct. 5. For more information on the programs, contact your county

Festival of the Bells
throws still available
The Festival of the Bells committee has announced that the festival’s
keepsake throw rugs with an image of the former Hillsboro Town Hall building
are still available.
The old town hall was located on South High Street at the West Walnut
Street intersection. The building was in city service from 1875-1949. This
is the same building featured on this year’s Festival of the Bells painting
by area artist Stacia Burke.
The throws, produced by Mill Street Design of Bridgeport, Pa., are $50

meets on Tuesdays
The Celebrate Victory Recovery Program meets every Tuesday night at 7

Group meetings
The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati will sponsor a
Highland County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group on the
third Monday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. at Highland District Hospital.

The Hillsboro Eagles host bingo on Thursday nights. Doors open at 5:30

The Rocky Fork Lake/Rainsboro area has a new meeting of AA at Rainsboro
United Methodist Church, Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. In addition, there will
be Al-Anon support meetings Saturdays at the church.

New Life Ministries
car, bike show Sept. 22
New Life Ministries will hold their annual car and bike show and poker

Celebration of Life
Oct. 6 at SSCC
The Southern Ohio Pregnancy Center will hold a Celebration of Life Event
on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Southern State Community College track, located
at 100 Hobart Dr. in Hillsboro, beginning at 9 a.m. The morning will be
filled with carnival fun, including face-painting, popcorn, peanuts, cotton
candy and more. The event is for walkers of all ages, “trikers” (ages 2-6)
and “bikers” (motorcycle riders). Their fundraising goal is $20,000. Those
who cannot participate in person may donate money to be a “virtual
participant.”

Haunted Hills seeks
‘scare squad’ members
It’s hard to realize that fall is almost upon us, and fall means it’s
almost time for the Haunted Hills at Magic Waters. Magic Waters is working
to make this year’s Haunted Hills the best ever. However, in order to do
that, they must assemble the best scare squad. Young people (and not so
young) who are interested in working in the Haunted Hills may call Jean Lowe

Hunter Education Course
The Highland County Coon Hunters Club and the Ohio Division of Wildlife
are sponsoring a Hunter Education Course on Sept. 19, 20 and 23 at the Coon
Hunters Clubhouse on Carper Lane. The times are 6-9 p.m. on the 19th and 20
and 1-5 p.m. on the 23rd. Students age 10 and under must attend with an
adult.
The course covers not only gun safety, but also firearms, ammunition,
hunter ethics, first aid, archery, field care of game, habitat and many
other subjects essential to being a hunter and outdoorsman. There is no fee
for the course, and students must attend all three sessions.

Fall Creek Friends Church invites the public to their fall event, “Come

Strike out homelessness
The Highland County Homeless Shelter will hold a "strike out
homelessness" event at Highland Lanes from noon-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6.
Bowling will cost $40 per lane for two hours. There will be a 50/50 drawing,
silent auction and raffles.
Donation of these items are needed at the Highland County Homeless
Shelter: Paper towels, bathroom tissue, soap and laundry detergent.

Flu shot clinics
The Highland County Health Department will hold flu clinics on Monday,
Sept. 24 at the Hillsboro Senior Citizens Center from 3-6 p.m. and
Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the Greenfield Nutrition Center from 10 a.m. - noon
and 4-6 p.m. Flu shots will be available for adults and for children 6
months of age and older. The cost of the flu shot is $20. Pneumonia
vaccinations will also be available.

Penn Twp. School
reunion Sept. 16
The Penn Township School (Samantha) Reunion will be held Sunday, Sept.
16 at Samantha Friends Church at the corner of Route 62 and Fall Creek Road.
A carry-in basket dinner will be held at 12:30 p.m. Anyone who attended Penn

First Presbyterian Church of
Greenfield Fundraiser Dinner
The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will host their fundraiser
dinner on Sunday, Sept. 23 from noon-1:30 p.m. The menu will include chicken noodle casserole, mixed veggies, homemade applesauce, rolls, dessert and drink. Carry-out will be available. The cost of the meal is a free-will donation. The proceeds will benefit the church/manse renovation fund.

Classic Country Show
The Central Ohio Opry Classic Country Show returns to the Old Buford
School the first and third Saturday of each month. The Sept. 15 show will
feature Dee Dee Darling and John Mullenix as well as all the fabulous
Central Ohio Opry Band members. Mark your calendars and come out and enjoy a great show. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show runs from 7-9:30 p.m. Admission is $8. Concessions are available throughout the evening.

Brad Sparks, 12-year-old Ohio Opry talent, will be performing at 6 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 15 at Old Timers Days in Peebles. Sparks plays traditional
country music. He performs regularly at Paint Valley Jamboree in Bainbridge,
Southern Ohio Opry in McDermott, and Lebanon Grand Opry House in Lebanon.

The Fairfield Local School Board of Education has changed the date of
their regular September board meeting to Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in
