Fireworks, food, fun at RFL
The Rocky Fork Community Alliance will host an Independence Day party at
North Beach at Rocky Fork Lake on Saturday, June 30. Food will be served
beginning at 6:30 p.m., including hamburgers, pork BBQ, sausage, sauerkraut,
beans, chips, desserts and drinks. Fireworks will begin at dark.
Donations, which will be used for lake-area improvements, are accepted and
appreciated. Guests are asked to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
Belfast Methodist Church
ice cream supper June 29
The annual ice cream supper of the Belfast United Methodist Church will
be held Friday, June 29 from 4:30-7 p.m. Quarts of ice cream will be
available for sale.
Open Door free meal June 30
The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield First United
Methodist Church on Saturday, June 30. Serving will be from 4-5:30 p.m. The
menu is hamburgers, potato chips, baked beans, and brownies. Everyone is
welcome.
HDH Foundation
golf tournament July 21
The HDH Foundation golf tournament will be July 21 at the Hillsboro Elks
Golf Course, a 4-person scramble for $200. For information, call Cathy Jones

Benefit for Brandon Barrett
June 30 in Buford
There will be a benefit dinner for Brandon Barrett on June 30. It will
be held at the Clay Township Park (the old Buford school) from 4-7 p.m.
Barrett is 25 and has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He is
presently going through treatments and is scheduled for a bone marrow
transplant. Dinners will be served for a donation. There will be music
throughout the evening by Trent Sams. An auction will be held at 7 p.m.

Lynchburg fire district
hosts open house July 22
The Lynchburg Area Joint Fire & Ambulance District will host an open
house at each of its three stations on Sunday, July 22 from noon-3 p.m.
Station One is located at 8123 state Route 135, Lynchburg. Station Two
is located at 1984 Hollowtown Road in the Pricetown area. Station Three is
located at 4844 state Route 138 in the Danville area. Lunch will be provided
by the Lynchburg Firefighters Association at each location.
Sugar Grove United Methodist Church’s
bike ride July 8
The Sugar Grove United Methodist Church’s second annual SON-Shine Ride
Bike Event will be held July 8 at Chrisman Park and Tri-County Triangle
Trail in Washington Court House. The sign-in for the over-30-mile ride will
begin at 1 p.m. The shorter rides and DQ ride sign-in will begin at 3 p.m. A
cookout will follow at 5:30 p.m. Water and snacks will be provided at
designated rest stops. In case of inclement weather, check WCHO (105.5) or
Facebook (SON-Shine Ride) for information.
Fall Creek Ladies USFW
rummage/bake sale July 6-7
On Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7, the Fall Creek Ladies USFW will
have a rummage/bake sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. The church is located
at 11345 Karnes Road, Hillsboro.
Festival of the Bells
3-on-3 Tournament
The Festival of the Bells 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, sponsored by the
Hillsboro Lions Club, will be held July 7 at the Hillsboro City Park (West
North and Railroad Street). There will be boys and girls divisions of ages
9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18 and 19 and older. There are four players
per team, and proof of age must be shown at check-in.
There is no pre-registration. The entry fee is $80 per team (cash or
checks made out to the Hillsboro Lions Club). Registration will be held from
8-9 a.m., and games will start at 10 a.m. This is a double elimination
tournament. First and second place trophies will be awarded.
Proceeds will be used by the Lions Club to further their community

Cattleman’s Association
sponsors Summer of Giving
The Highland County Cattleman’s Association is sponsoring “Summer of
Giving.” This is an event designed to help one family in each of the five
Highland County school districts. Donations are being accepted for school
supplies, clothes, toys, food, and monetary donations and gift cards to
local merchants. Donations will be accepted through July 9 at the following
locations: Bright Local Food Pantry, Union Stockyards, NCB of Hillsboro,
Southern Hills Community Bank in Leesburg, WW Cleaners in Greenfield,
Higgins Steel Roofing, and at the Highland County Cattleman’s booth during

accepting scholarship
applications
The Hillsboro-area AAUW is currently accepting applications for the 2012
scholarships. The applicant must be a current resident of Highland County
and must have resided in Highland County for the last two years. The
scholarships are awarded to “non-traditional” female students whose
education has been interrupted or delayed. Applications are available at the
libraries in Highland County or any AAUW member. All applications must be

meets on Tuesdays
The Celebrate Victory Recovery Program meets every Tuesday night at 7
p.m. at ReaLife Church, located at 230 West South Street, Hillsboro.
Alzheimer’s Support
Group meetings
The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati will sponsor a
Highland County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group on the
third Monday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. at Highland District Hospital.

The Hillsboro Eagles host bingo on Thursday nights. Doors open at 5:30

The Rocky Fork Lake/Rainsboro area has a new meeting of AA at Rainsboro
United Methodist Church, Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. In addition, there will
be Al-Anon support meetings Saturdays at the church.

meetings on the last Wednesday of each month. The meetings will take place

Engineer’s Office
summer hours
The following are the summer hours for the County Engineer’s Office and
Highway Department. Effective through Oct. 4, the engineer’s office will be
working four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
After-hour emergencies will continue to be handled by calling the sheriff at
393-1421.

Classic Country Opry

The Central Ohio Classic Country Opry will be returning to the Clay
Township Park (the old Buford School, which is now air-conditioned) the
first and third Saturday of each month. On July 7, the headliners are David
Schrenk and Alyssa Oder. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.
with concessions available all evening long. Tickets are $8 (children under

antiques sale July 7
The annual antiques and collectibles sale hosted by the Highland County
Historical Society will take place during the Festival of the Bells on
Saturday, July 7 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. under tents behind the Highland House
Museum, 151 East Main Street, Hillsboro. Additional vendors are welcome at
$35 a space, tables extra (advance reservations required). Antiques and
collectibles only: no crafts, food, clothing or non-antique toys or tools.
