Check It Out: Leesburg Library prepares for fall

By
Sharon Aukeman-
Where did the summer go?  The staff at the Leesburg Library is making preparations for our fall programming as we enter the month of September. September is Library Card Sign-up Month and the staff here would like to remind parents that your children need to have the "smartest card" in their wallets - a library card! Please bring your children to the front desk and sign them up for a card if they don't already have one. The only requirement is that their parent must have a library card in good standing within the Highland County System.  If a parent needs a card, we will be happy to oblige!  Bring in a picture ID and one other piece of identification showing your current address.  That's all it takes!
Other activities this month include our Knit Together group.  They meet on every Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m.  New knitters are always welcome.
Our teen book group, SPARX, will meet on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 5:30 p.m.  All Leesburg area teens grade 7 and up are invited to participate. This month's book is "Graceling" by Kristin Cashore. Books are available for check out at the front desk. Pizza & pop will be served.
Our story times resume on Thursday, Sept. 16 and continue every Thursday morning.  Wee Ones (age 6-36 months) meet at 10 a.m. for a time of songs, rhymes, and stories with caregiver participation.  Tater Tots (age 3-5 years) meet at 10:30 a.m. for songs, finger plays, flannel board activities, stories and crafts.  Stop by our front desk to pick up a booklet that includes this year's dates, themes and more information.  Topics this month include Welcome to the Library, Silly String and Teddy Bears.  Please join us for a full year of story time fun!
Dawna Jo Kiesling from the Highland County Extension Office will join us on Thursday, September 16 from 10 a.m.-noon and on Monday, Sept. 27 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. to share healthy nutrition tips with patrons.
RRR book group will be meeting on Thursday, September 16 at 1:30 p.m. Books being discussed are Homer and Langely by E.L. Doctorow and The Last Lecture by Rand Pausch.
The library will be hosting an Investment Seminar with Virginia Purdy on Monday, Sept. 20 from 6-7 p.m.  All patrons are welcome to attend.
We will also be offering Computer Classes on Monday evenings during the month of November. Please stop in or call us to sign up or for more information.  Class size is limited, so please register early. We look forward to you visiting with us this September.  Let us know how we can help you with any of your informational needs.
