September is Library Card Sign-up Month and the staff at the Leesburg Library would like to remind parents that your children need to have the “smartest card” in their wallets – a library card!
Please bring your children to the front desk and sign them up for a card if they don’t already have one. The only requirement is that their parent must have a library card in good standing within the Highland County System. If a parent needs a card, we will be happy to oblige. Bring in a photo ID and one other piece of identification showing your current address. That’s all it takes.
To encourage our young patrons to have and use their library cards, every time kids and teens use their cards to check out items during the month of September, they can enter to win a prize drawing. Come in and get the details at our front desk.
We don’t want to leave out our adult patrons this month so we are having a “Heigh-Ho, Come to the Fair” contest. Answer some trivia questions about the Highland County Fair and be eligible to win a prize. The contest runs from Sept. 1-13.
Other activities this month include our Knit Together group. They meet on every Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. New knitters are always welcome.
The Highland County libraries will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5 in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Please feel free to use our outside book drop to return items. We will re-open on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The Leesburg Life Squad will join us from 3:30-4:30 p.m. to take blood pressure readings for our patrons.
Our teen book group, SPARX, will meet on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 5:30 p.m. All Leesburg area teens grades 7 and up are invited to participate. This month’s
book is "10 Miles Past Normal" by Francis O’Rourke Dowell. Books are available for check out at the front desk. Pizza and pop will be served.
Dawna Jo Kiesling from the Highland County Extension Office will join us on Monday, Sept. 12 from 3-5 p.m. and on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m.-noon to share healthy nutrition tips with patrons.
Our story times resume on Thursday, Sept. 15 and continue every Thursday morning. Wee Ones (age 6-36 months) meet at 10 a.m. for a time of songs,
rhymes, and stories. Tater Tots (age 3-5 years) meet at 10:30 a.m. for songs, finger plays, flannel board activities, stories and crafts. Stop by
our front desk to pick up a booklet that includes this year’s dates, themes and more information.
Topics this month include Welcome to the Library, Johnny Appleseed and Splish Splash. Please join us for a full year of story time fun! RRR book group will also be meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 1:30 p.m.
We have had many requests for an evening story time for children who may not be able to attend our Thursday morning story times. We invite parents and
their 3-5-year-olds to join us on the third Monday of each month from 6-6:30 p.m. for story time fun!
We will also be offering computer classes on Monday evenings during the month of October. Class size is limited, so please register now either in
person or via phone to reserve your spot.
